I think I’ll just uninstall FCP5. This job is only for a few weeks. However, I’ve done a ton of searching and it seems unclear as to how to cleanly uninstall Final Cut Studio. I’ve searched here, LAFCPUG, 2pop, and the Apple site. It seems as if nobody has a definitive answer.

    Anyone?

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I don’t have the luxury to follow through on this option at this point in time.

    Noah,

I’ve been doing a lot of searching and I just want to make sure I’m understanding this correctly. It seems you are the guru on this specific topic.

If I have 24pa footage from a DVX100a camera and using FCP5. I want to cut in a 23.98 timeline.

From reading that Larry Jordan article and other stuff you have posted on DVXuser, I’m still confused (sorry).

In FCP, in the Easy setup menu, there is a setup for:

    DV-NTSC 24p (23.98) Advanced Pulldown Removal

Is this the preset I should be using? Is this setting capturing at 29.97 and then removing the pulldown?

And when you say not to capture at 23.98, I assume you specifically mean using the FCP preset that says:

    DV-NTSC 24p (23.98).

    Is that all correct?

    Thanks again.

Thanks for the confirmation. I’ve just started to use all those sites.

Thanks Shane. From reading your post, I do get a little bit of conflicting advice. Forgetting the issue of backing up the file which I do, is it better to keep the project file on the main drive? You seem to say that there are no issues to have it on the external.

I’ve had this happen several times in the last couple of months. I’ve borrowed this deck from a friend and he bought it used so I have no idea how well it’s been taken care of. I assume cleaning will not hurt it.

I have recaptured some other footage and it does fix the problem. So I know it isn’t the original tape because the problem doesn’t occur in the same spot. Plus, I don’t see the problem on the original tape. It’s funny but you almost can’t see the video glitch. You have to go frame by frame and look very closely at the entire frame.

Thankfully, I did some searching on this site and finally found someone with the same problem which is where I got the answer that it could be a video glitch. I would’ve never have guessed since I was hearing audio problems and not seeing video problems.

Thanks. After some investigation, it seems like it has to do with a video glitch. Apparently, if you have even a slight video glitch, it causes the audio to drop (but oddly enough, not the video). I’m not sure why that’s happening but at least I’ve got it narrowed down.

The original source tape does not have the glitch but my digitized footage does. I’m wondering if it’s a dirty head on my deck. I’m gonna clean the deck heads and recapture.

Unfortunately, my client sometimes makes changes himself and he only has access to FCP4.
