If you want clip timecode use the timecode filter. It’s in Filters-> Video. -
Upgrade to FCS3. You’ll pay the same upgrade price from version 4.
ProRes is the best i-frame codec ever. -
You should get a moving image this way through the cinema desktop preview in Final Cut Pro.

USE framecontrols. Resize filter to BEST. Or your downscale will suck.

open Quicktime Full HD file in compressor.
Choose DVD preset.
Edit Preset; Turn on framecontrols. Resize filter to best. -
And don’t forget to run Software Update a few times. Hit Apple icon left top.
So you’re Pro Apps are up to date aswell. -
You’re testing with a h264 in FCP? no fair comparison.

HD to SD scaling with a AJA HDP2, watching on a HD monitor looks very very good. I couldn’t believe at first.
It’s much better than HD to SD scaling with a Kona card. -
Have you configured Compressor as a cluster on your machine? ON default Compressor doesn’t use all Cores.
In Qmaster you can configure this quite easily. -
All i can say is that MOTU creates great audio interface but they still have to learn video.
I ‘ve tested the latest MOTU Video interfaces in FCP and they are a disaster.
If a unit outputs PAL signal when choosing NTSC playback and the other way around , something is really really wrong.
If you want a good video interface for FCP on a MacBook Pro , get a Matrox Expresscard solution.
