I’ve searched the forums but no certain fix found as yet, so I thought I post my specific problems and see if anyone can shed some light

I’ve got 2 macbook pros and 2 motu V4HDs running the audio and visuals for a live show. One main computer and one backup. They stream the video and 8 separate channels of audio that can be mixed in with the band. This setup has been fine for over a year now but the band has just started touring the states (they’re from Australia) and have been running into issues with the main system glitching. The video and audio freezes generally about halfway through the show and the video recovers but the audio cuts out. At this point they switch to the backup machine but this is far from ideal.

I figured it would be an issue with the disks, but they are pretty much empty on the main system and the main system is 7200rpm while the backup that has never crashed is 5400. I did a check with AJA system test for read/write speeds and the main system was up around 80mbps vs 50mbps on the backup. Repaired permissions etc but they said during the next trip over there the same problem occurred. I’d suggest an external drive but it has been fine for a whole year running off the system disk.

I’m here testing now and I can’t get it to fault (my descriptions are based on what the foldback guy told me) It couldn’t possibly be an issue caused by the power differences or something in the states or the fact they’re running a PAL signal into ntsc equipment or something could it?

Is it more likely to be an issue with the V4HD? We had to get one replaced because it was having issues over firewire 800 (fw400 cable wound up solving the problem)

Could the video or audio files be corrupt on the main machine (although I think they’re the exact same files on both machines)

Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated. I’ll most likely trash prefs, delete unused files etc but beyond that not really sure how to proceed.

Anyone? would really appreciate some suggestions. I can’t get the machines to fault testing them here in Australia. Any suggestions at all as to why it would be happening in the states?

    Thanks in advance.

All i can say is that MOTU creates great audio interface but they still have to learn video.
I ‘ve tested the latest MOTU Video interfaces in FCP and they are a disaster.
If a unit outputs PAL signal when choosing NTSC playback and the other way around , something is really really wrong.
If you want a good video interface for FCP on a MacBook Pro , get a Matrox Expresscard solution.

    Hey Sam

What’s the status on this issue? Don’t recall seeing your post from before but now Paul has bumped it back up it does seem pertinent that you may be trying to run a 25fps and/or PAL output from your V4HD systems into equipment thats expecting a 30fps and/or NTSC signal , and that surely won’t work well.

BTW if you haven’t found it already there is a MOTU V4HD forum right here on the COW: https://forums.creativecow.net/motu

    Cheers
    Andy
