Conform will give you slowmotion footage.
Do you want that?
If not just create 50fps prores and just drag it in the 25 timeline. You will loose half of the frames. -
Learn after effects and or motion.
If you dont want to, work in ProRes or Uncompressed.

Seems like a thumbnail caching issue.
Start with trashing your fcp prefs/cache files.
Google fcp preference manager. Its free.
If its a timeline issue, then copy paste your edit in a new sequence with same settings. -

I did have succes with ProSoft DataRescue one time. But these we’re 10 GB files.
But if you have the tapes, why bother the time. -
Thats crap. When i watch tv, 75% i see is cheesy.
Its the person behind a tool that makes something cheesy or not. And its also a matter of taste ofcourse.
Blaming a tool for cheesyness is just weak. -
Thats why people use osx. Windows is your problem.

Its new code. I doubt it will overwrite fcp 7 cause its not upgradable.
If it does than dual boot is a solution. -
Use compressor and De-interlace on high quality. ( Edit the H264 preset in Compressor )
