  • Log and Transfer issues – Canon 7d, EOS plugin

Posted by Colin Kelly on April 25, 2011 at 7:49 pm

I am having issues with the Log and Transfer option. I have all my files on my CF card. I plug my CF card into my reader. Once they have been transferred to my hard drive, I open FCP and go to log and transfer. When I open the folder where I have placed all my files (both the .mov and .thm) I open them. I use the canon eos plugin and use prores 422 (LT). When I try to add them to my queue, I get an error message that says my files have the wrong directory structure.

I have no idea what this means. I have used this for a number of projects and have never had this issue. Any advice would be a big help.

On a side note, when I just leave my CF card in the reader and go to log and transfer, it works just fine pulling the information directly from the CF card. Why is it not working when I actually save the files to my hard drive?

You are copying the ENTIRE card contents onto your hard drive right? Also, how are you copying them? Once you have copied the card data, the folder that contains the card contents as they were on the card is the folder you should select when doing L&T.

Get the latest version of the Canon Log and Transfer plugin.

You don’t need the folder structure anymore with the latest version.

But if you want a 1:1 copy of any card.
Don’t copy them, but create a disk Image with diskutility.

Don’t go digging into the folder. Choose the root folder that contains all the files you backed up. Then you should have no issues. Once you go digging, FCP doesn’t see the proper file structure.

Yes. I am copying the ENTIRE contents of the card to the specified folder. I am dragging the DCIM and the MISC folders from my CF reader to my external HD. This is how I’ve always done it and it has worked fine. Just not this time…

Latest Canon E1 plugin 1.2 doesn’t care for folder structure.

    Out today!!

I’m having a similar issue. I have a folder that contains several folders that each contain original QT H.264 files captured from a Canon 5D. It won’t let me bring them in using Log and Transfer. I downloaded what I hope is the latest release (CE1120X). It tells me:

“‘Ogilvy Atlanta_Zoosk Effie Video Files’ contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media.”

The “Ogilvy…” folder is top-level directory that contains each Scene folder and the Scene folders contain the .MOV, .WAV and .THM files. Any ideas how to import this footage and make it ProRes422? I can use Compressor if need be, but I thought Log and Transfer was the way to go.

    Any ideas? Thanks.
