Yes, we have set TC Make to Preset, Its weird, we even can stripe the tape and start it at 58:00 but when we try and take that same striped tape, and do a Edit to Tape it starts at past the hour mark and Im not sure where it is getting this other TC from…..is this a bug or am I just going nuts….

They are going to lose if they dont come out with a good storage solution for this camera….dont get me wrong, this camera looks great on paper….I want one, but they are asking people to take on a niche format at a hefty price…..I hope it works but I am afraid that we will see what we always see in these format wars…and if history is any gauge, well you get the idea…..

I agree as well. Also, it seems it isnt even coming out for a few months at least AFTER the camera comes out…..ouch….still not a very great workflow option….next….

Thks for your replies. Im not really sure why they are shooting HDV, it is eventually being downconverted to a DV stream which we deliver to a station that reencodes to MPEG on the fly for broadcast, not sure what the point is of shooting HDV. So Im walking into this situation where they are using all HDV cameras and new FCP5 setups, and Im just wondering what kind of issues Im going to run into. Im curious about the bugs printing to video, the other day they couldnt get the deck to set a specific timecode to print to tape, so they had to eyeball it, this is not good as they want this material frame accurate, are these some of the bugs your talking about, I didnt get a chance to really dig in and see if it was a user error.

I always thought this was weird that Apple has not implimented this, seems like a very common need.

August 25, 2005 at 9:16 pm in reply to: first time working with lots of DVCPRO50 24p material, anyone have advice, pitfalls?lol, my bad, it is 1.5 gigs….Ive been stalling and stalling to update this suite…..its almost time and Im wondering if this is the time for this project just for the multicam editing….but then I really have to upgrade the computer as well as the program…the director was saying we could offline it, and I was like why??? He was shocked that I suggested we edit at full rez….why would you offline DVCPRO50 footage if you have the storage, doesnt makes sense to me…..so you would capture this at DVCPRO50 24p and edit in that timeline…only thing is I guess I need that Panny DVCPRO50 deck if I want to see the full rez on my NTSC monitor right? I have a KonaSD card, which will output DVCPRO50 to NTSC but not at full rez, it compresses the heck out of it…..
