August 26, 2014 at 4:46 am in reply to: Create a 3D file without 3D camera?

I’m aware that some early 3D was made that way but I guess what I really want to know is if we captured 2 almost identical videos as described, whether or not the files could be edited in Vegas as is or is there some other steps that also must be undertaken to achieve a usable 3D video file.

Not having ever done this I’m guessing that both video files will need to be cropped a little bit otherwise details from 3D would be missing for the edges.

If Vegas can produce a usable 3D file this way could it be viewed an any 3D TV?

I have noticed that 3D TV’s either use an active or passive system that require different types of glasses. Some have all of the depth displayed behind the screen yet other TV’s can display images that start at the screen & can come out towards you.

I have even heard of people taking 2 identical still cameras & mounting them in the same manner onto a tripod. The 2 files then use some freeware software to add 2 different color filters t0 the files & the merged file can be viewed by wearing cheap glasses tinted with 2 colors.

    Thanks in advance

I’m using Vegas capture to record directly onto the timeline using fire wire connected to a camcorder that recorded onto mini DV. I have the preview turned off but if I look through cameras viewfinder I can see either 12 or 16 bit superimposed onto the picture thats playing.

    Thanks in advance

Even though I have now captured several videos & saved them as individual clips with thumbnails I haven’t quite mastered the settings. I created a new folder for each tape with intention of putting each capture into it. I point the capture settings to this location.

I tell the program to rewind the tape & start capture at beginning. I can see where I am on the tape. The rewind stops & video appears & plays in preview window. When tape has finished playing I have captured nothing.

Any ideas as to what I missed? Should I see the thumbnails being generated as the tape plays?

    Thanks in advance

I recalled that I had a Firewire on the front of the case but the ports on the front had been changed so I thought I needed a new card. I didn’t it seems that there was an old port include on back so I used that.

All of the taped recorded to timeline so far are Digital 8. I have no 8MM tapes. I have some mini DV still to do. Unfortunately all tapes that I have done so far aren’t as I had expected them to be the original uncut vision. It appears that once they had been edited the tapes were re used & Vegas was used with the ‘print video to tape’ feature.

I assume that this ‘print video to tape’ version I now have will be identical to what would have appeared on a DVD had they been burnt to disk, but I don’t know.

    Thanks in advance

  • Something strange appears to be going on. A few days back I ran the cleaner & it wanted to delete some JPEG’s that were sitting in a folder on the desktop. I didn’t delete them. When I installed the newer version I ran program again & these picture weren’t listed.

    Thanks in advance

I have just got a card which I can’t install before tomorrow. I’m puzzled that the card has 3 inputs as I can’t image anyone being able to record from 3 camcorders at once.

Once captured do I have to set the settings or will Vegas be able to set the output to match input as is now the case? If not what settings should one use? The tapes are Mini DV & a couple of High 8.

    Thanks in advance

Is the Legacy driver or any other drivers etc. automatically added by Windows as a new device? Do I need any other software? I know that I can get second hand card cheaply but I don’t know if these usually come with drivers or software?

    Thanks in advance

That would suggest that the preview isn’t a true preview or mirror image.

The project is small enough that I could change it to DVD & burn it to a re writable DVD. The only thing that puts me off doing this that it rakes so long to re render. It’s a pity that Vegas doesn’t have the option to turn PC off once burning is complete. Maybe I missed this option.

    Thanks in advance

The firmware is up to date since it’s a so called smart Blu-ray Player with internet access etc.

Thinking that it might still be the test disk I burned a real one but unfortunately had the same results. I can still call up the dar file & it plays perfectly on PC. I think that its time that I just move on to next project as there is only so much time one can waste. Thanks anyway.

    Thanks in advance
