Reboot your system. Open Vegas 15. Do View/Windows Layout/Default Layout. Is the Preview screen there?
If so, put some media on the timeline. Still ok?

VP16 Pro has Motion Tracking. You can also “pin” titles to the motion track.

Here’s my tutorial on it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7z68HLLxm3M

Can you post the video media you are using for this for download? If you only got the “audio event” error on the last try something else is not working for you. I’d need you video media to see why this won’t track the PIP.

    >> Unable to cast object of type ‘ScriptPortal.Vegas.AudioEvent’

You are selecting an audio event when running the Copy Motion Track to PIP. Select the Top video event and then hold down the CTRL key and select the bottom video event. DO NOT SELECT AN AUDIO EVENT.

That usually indicates a trial version. You need to pay a fee to register that FX package.

I tried it and had some success.

    1. Put event that has tablet with green screen display on top video track.
    2. Put event with background image that will fill the tablet screen on track below.
    3. Apply Chroma Keyer FX to event on top track.
    4. With timeline cursor at beginning of event, apply Motion Track (Bezier masking FX) to event on Top track.
    5. Apply Picture in Picture FX to background event on lower track. Adjust to fill tablet display on top track.
    6. Select both video events (top and bottom) and apply script . Tools/Scripting/Copy Motion Track to PIP

This does work but left me thinking it would be better to play the video on the tablet and shoot that live. If that’s not possible, this method might be second best.

Do you understand how to do the Chroma Key part of this?

This is an interesting problem. I believe Vegas can do it. I’d have to get the elements together and try it as I can’t think of the exact steps you take. It might involve the VP16 script “copy motion track to PIP”. I’ll get back on this after I run some experiments.

  • What you are describing does not fully register with me … but that could just be me getting old …

Can you make a tutorial type video showing the problem?
