    Hi !

Just upgraded to VP 16 and was trying out the Motion Tracking. Here’s my predicament, first track has a clip of someone holding a tablet with a green screen. Second track is someone, let’s call him Sinbad, telling a story.

How do I go about making it look like it was viewed on the tablet ?

I can track the tablet no problem but how do I get Sinbad to follow the tablet with Motion Tracking ?

I must have an air bubble in my brain ’cause I just can’t make it work. Would someone be kind enough to explain ?

    Cheers !

This is an interesting problem. I believe Vegas can do it. I’d have to get the elements together and try it as I can’t think of the exact steps you take. It might involve the VP16 script “copy motion track to PIP”. I’ll get back on this after I run some experiments.

Do you understand how to do the Chroma Key part of this?

    Hi Paul

No problem with Chroma Key. I think I worked with the guy that invented it… back in the 30’s LOL

I’m still trying to work out the tracking thing.

    Cheers !

I tried it and had some success.

    1. Put event that has tablet with green screen display on top video track.
    2. Put event with background image that will fill the tablet screen on track below.
    3. Apply Chroma Keyer FX to event on top track.
    4. With timeline cursor at beginning of event, apply Motion Track (Bezier masking FX) to event on Top track.
    5. Apply Picture in Picture FX to background event on lower track. Adjust to fill tablet display on top track.
    6. Select both video events (top and bottom) and apply script . Tools/Scripting/Copy Motion Track to PIP

This does work but left me thinking it would be better to play the video on the tablet and shoot that live. If that’s not possible, this method might be second best.

    Hi Paul

Thx for the tip ! It’s not working for me and I tried quite a few times. Everything seems to go thru the motions but Sinbad is not following. Out of 8 tries, I got this error message on my last try.

    Suggestions ?

    Cheers !

    >> Unable to cast object of type ‘ScriptPortal.Vegas.AudioEvent’

You are selecting an audio event when running the Copy Motion Track to PIP. Select the Top video event and then hold down the CTRL key and select the bottom video event. DO NOT SELECT AN AUDIO EVENT.

Can you post the video media you are using for this for download? If you only got the “audio event” error on the last try something else is not working for you. I’d need you video media to see why this won’t track the PIP.

    Hi Paul

Just starting to get the hang of VP 16’s colour scheme. Didn’t notice that the audio track was selected. My bad.

You helped me figure it out when you asked for the media. For some reason it didn’t like the .MXF file format. Tried an .MP4 and it worked.

Thanks again for your time Paul ! I really appreciate it !

Can vegas track pictures and video now? I thought it could only track effects or text.
