  • THose are good suggestions above .. if nothing works ..

Did you use a 3rd Party FX which is currently not enabled?

Open the Veg in a text editor and compare to a normal veg that is opening ok. .veg files opened in a text editor contain a lot of nonsense characters, as you would expect, but there is a lot of readable info there as well. Your plugins and the usual Sony footer info are all there

Something has changed in your system since these veg files were created. Narrow it down. What changed? Are there any other veg files that you have that were created prior to changing your main drive that will open ok? OR not open ok?

This is something I never use .. but this will allow the timeline cursor to keep up at 4X rate. Combining this with setting the event to 400% playback will run through at about 10x or better ..

My Tivo has a feature that speeds up picture and audio by about 30% while keeping the audio close to the same pitch as normal. The purpose is to go through a program ( like an interview ) quicker.

Vegas can whip through a video track at very high rates. Scanning quickly though audio is more problematic.

What would you audio sound like at 10x normal? You could try applying on a track level, PITCH SHIFT .. Set the semitones to shift at 30 .. This goes about 10x normal speed. IT ran through a 3 min song in about 20 seconds. But the timeline cursor does not sync and stays at normal speed.

You can get up to 400% playback on audio by holding down the CTRL key and grabbing the end of the audio event and dragging it to the left. But, the timeline cursor does not keep up with this fully either.

  • You need to run “media info” and post the results for the max amount of help here.

It’s a shareware program. So no charge unless you want to donate.

    >>Is it best practice to pan/crop BEFORE splitting into segments?

Yes. You can adjust each event as needed, but if they are all the same media, like, for example, an interview where the shot is static, best to pan/crop the whole media first. Saves time. BUT .. may not save time in all situations. As long as you understand how things work, you can decide what is best for your edit.

I like “paste event attributes” .. it has saved me lots of time too. Remember, you can still adjust each event individually after doing the “paste event attributes” ..

Lex is right. You cannot delete pan/crop .. It’s confusing. It appears in all the FX chains but it is something you cannot do without. Pan/crop sets your framing. It has to be there.

    >>How do I then apply pan/crop to all split segments at once?

First. When you place some media on the timeline, we call it “an event” in Vegas. If you split that media, you now have two events and so on. So let’s say you have split your media into 6 events. You want the same exact pan/crop setting for all of these events. How do you do it all at once?

    1. Copy (Ctrl-C) the event you want to use for pan/crop settings.
    2. Select all the other events on your timeline that you want to apply the pan/crop settings to .. Do this by selecting the first event, then hold down the CTRL key and click the next event you want to select .. and so on until all events are selected and highlighted.
    3. Right click on one of the selected events. Choose “Paste event attributes”. .. DONE.

It does not matter which events you select. They do not all have to be from the same media — all of them will get the same pan/crop settings if you copy and then paste event attributes. THEY WILL ALSO GET any other attributes from the copied event, like FX too. So if you have a Color Curves setting in the event you copy, that same setting will be applied to an event you do “paste event attributes” .. SO if you only want pan/crop, then “uncheck” any other FX in the chain before you copy it to do a past event attributes.

By the way, if you adjust the pan/crop on your media prior to doing a split. The pan/crop setting remains no matter how many times you split that media. But once the media is split, they are separate events with separate attributes.

    Hope this helps.

I think I see where you are going wrong. You’re confusing saving a “preset” with doing a “save as” to a Plugin Package. These are two different things. A preset is for customizing one FX. The Plugin Package will save an entire chain of effects.

Sorry for the long series of pictures folks .. but this will explain what I’m doing … I hope.

It seems to work for me. Maybe I’m not understanding you .. or maybe you skipped something in the directions.

The key thing is that the last FX in the chain must be something different from the one you want to apply again. So you may need a “place holder” as the last FX.

pan/crop –> Effect 1 (create preset) –> Place holder effect > copy of Effect 1 (using preset)

But once you apply the FX you want applied to the same event again, then you can delete the “place holder” .. this will give you what you want I think ..

    pan/crop –> Effect 1 –> copy of Effect 1

  • But .. with Sync cursor ON .. undo works as you’d expect. Stays put.

I generally work with Sync cursor ON so I never noticed this behavior.
