How interesting, let us know if you figure out a solution.

I’m surprised that DaVinci won’t read your MXF files. What camera is the footage from?

  • That’s very helpful to know! Are you working in a Production? And if so, were your duplicate clips in different projects?

  • Good thinking, somehow I hadn’t encountered the Consolidate Duplicates command before. I moved the media from the original and second import into a new project within the Production and selected Consolidate Duplicates, but nothing changed. I wonder if Premiere is seeing them as unique clips for some reason.

Here’s something interesting – I copied the project and opened it on its own (not as part of the Production) and running Consolidate Duplicates worked – so that means my issue has something to do with the Production.

This is an issue I’ve also run into and apparently others have, too. It’s not a setting in the camera, it just seems that some monitors can’t receive the HDMI signal the C200 outputs (especially some older monitors).

I’ve had good luck shooting C-Log on the C100 and Technicolor Cinestyle on Canon DSLRs (T3i and 5D MkII).

You could try out the EOSHD C-Log (a third-party attempt to match Canon’s C-Log) but I think you’ll find it doesn’t match perfectly. Do let us know what works best for you.

It’s possible the FireWire port on your camera is bad – a pretty common problem for DV cameras and decks.

You should open QuickTime 7 Pro and check the Recording tab. If you see DV-VCR as one of the Video Source options, your computer is indeed seeing the camera. Likewise, you can open up iMovie 11, click File > Import from Camera and if your camera is connected and working it’ll work there.

  • My best guess is a combination of 8 bit footage at a relatively low bit rate. Dark areas are particularly tricky for compression and really start to show at low bit rates.

What camera are you using? Are you shooting in a flat or Log profile?

What’s your workflow – shooting S-Log 3 on the FS7 and matching it to the 5DIII? What picture profile on the 5DIII?

I am curious to see if a 5D Mk IV could have internal 4K. I’ll look into the XC10 but I haven’t loved what I’ve heard so far.

  • Can I transfer select clips and create a new rebuilt AVCHD file structure within Premiere or must it be done in Prelude?

Also, if I have separate .mts files that were extracted from an AVCHD file, is there a way to rebuild those into a proper AVCHD structure?
