Forgive my ignorance but regarding some of your suggestions, I was under the impression that both PNG and Photo JPEG were not in the same color space as our XDCAM stuff? Part of the work the graphics dept does is based on shots they grab staight from the prodisc we give them…

I’ve thought about the tif sequence but that is a bit cumbersome… does fcp 7 treat that more flexibly than v.6?

Hi,

for quick comparison, try doing your roll in FCP’s Boris title Crawl ( it does rolls too). I find that sometimes the percieved quality is better than going through motion. And the render times are much faster.

(take into account that I am still using Motion 3 and its limitations/bugs when it comes to text)

Hi,

I find that sending my OMF files to a professional Sound Engineer saves me time and headaches, and probably money as well in the end. I get a professionaly mixed audio master that is within broadcast specs. If I or the client have specific wishes we sit in the audio room and enjoy directing the session.

IMHO ther’s nothing like collaborative work to achieve the best quality.

check out Automotion from Digital Heaven.

Save excel document as .txt, import and create as many titles as you want . Import in FCP and render.

It works very well.

Hi,

you don’t need special software and accessing accents is dead easy. I work in French most of the time yet use all my software in english with us keyboard (primarily because FCP’s localisation is awful with jargon that does not make sense).

With US kbd é (e with accute accent) is accessed by typing alt+e and e again. Accent grave is alt+the key left to your z key (the delete marker key) followed by the letter that has the accent. Circumflex accent is accessed by alt+i and then the character you need. Finally a ç (C cedille) is obtained by hitting alt+c.

This will cover most of your needs. More characters can be spotted by opening the keyboard viewer from macosx.

oh by the way, alt+q will produce the oe attached that should be used when writing oeil (eye) or oenologue, which reminds me that I have a fine bordeaux bottle to open up 😉

Reviving this thread to say that there is another alternative:

1) Get the clock generator plugin for FCP from Matthias https://www.mattias.nu/plugins/, it is free but you can make a donation

2) Generate the countdown choosing style from your system’s loaded fonts

3) export to use in Motion 3

N.B. As I haven’t upgraded to fcs 3 I don’t know if said plugin works in fcp 7

Also, as for every generator in fcp, slug included, you can make them the length you want by changing their duration in the viewer.

’twas operator error after all.

I don’t do much titling and was assuming Boris was saving when in fact I was not asking it to do so but merely adding a style to an existing category.

Therefore the category was updated but no new folder appeared at finder level, and rightly so. Duh…

Thanks for your answer. Admin rights could be an issue as the system is on a san and has been recently installed. But I notice that all folders in the Boris Application Support folder have same read/write access…. and the Font one does save my selection. weird….

Hi,

I’ve had similar issues with credit roll texts I was cutting and pasting from various formated text files.

I’ve narrowed it down to this: For a credit roll to keep its formating I have to copy the text from an rtf formated text and paste it into Motion. Then, whatever roundtrips with fcp and changes I do it seems to work.

thank you for the feedback.

What I don’t like about the Bella is both the key placement that results from their adding a jog wheel that I don’t have a use for, and the general feel of a very light piece of pastic.

The Avids we have run on HP computers and the keyboard the reseller fits them with is that silver and grey keyboard and to me it feels almost as bad as the Bella.

Because there are several of us working with those Avids, some less experienced than others, I can not customize a keyboard with no key that reflects that customization. This leaves me with very few options apparently…

In the end I may resort to buying my own keyboard for when I work with those Avids… Any one using the “DasKeyboard”? it looks right and you can get a blind version of it (no inscriptions).
