  • Timer Countdown in Motion 3…???

Posted by Phil Muri on April 8, 2008 at 4:40 am

    Hi,

Is it possible to create a digital countdown timer in Motion 3? For example, starting at 60 minutes and ticking down all the way to 0?

    Thanks,

    -Phil

It’s possible, but pretty tedious because you’d have to do it manually. Motion doesn’t have a text generator/behavior for it yet (Motion 3.5.1?).

Digital Heaven does have a counter plugin for FCP itself though ($20).

You can also use the timecode generator in FCP over a slug. but you have no control over typefaces and other subtleties.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

Better than using a slug, you can make a black .tiff or .tga or .png with a black alpha channel, & drop the TC generator in that. In the FCP browser, you can make that blank still to be as long as you want, FCP’s slug can only be 2 minutes long.

Reviving this thread to say that there is another alternative:

    1) Get the clock generator plugin for FCP from Matthias https://www.mattias.nu/plugins/, it is free but you can make a donation

    2) Generate the countdown choosing style from your system’s loaded fonts

    3) export to use in Motion 3

N.B. As I haven’t upgraded to fcs 3 I don’t know if said plugin works in fcp 7

Also, as for every generator in fcp, slug included, you can make them the length you want by changing their duration in the viewer.

    Hope this helps
