What John said and yes, you have to do it clip by clip. Actually, often you also have to keyframe within the clips unless you specifically shoot the video with 16×9 in mind.
It will look worse since the cropped footage will now be scaled up even more to fill the whole widescreen TV but it will still probably look better to most people than the old 4×3 ratio with masks on the sides.
I remember working in consumer electronics retail when DVDs first came out. People were constantly bitching about the “Black bars” on the top and bottom of the screen and hated widescreen. Now it is vice versa.

1280×1080 is correct if they were shooting 1080 60i mode on the P2 cam. DVCPro footage is not full raster.
The .mxf extention from P2 cards is used for both the video and audio files. The location in the directory structure on the P2 card tells the NLE if it is video or audio. Fun huh? What you need to do is ask that they send you the entire directory structure from the P2 cards. Then you have to “Mount” them by putting the directory structure on a usb hard drive and using the device explorer in Vegas Pro 12 to import them. AT least that’s about the only way I know when you don’t have the hardware sitting in front of you but I have only been using P2 with Vegas since 12 came out and not often at that.
Of course, you could also require that the main office just transcode everything to ProRes 422 and send that to you. The quality loss should be negligable if they know what they are doing.
Vegas shoudl have no trouble with ProRes 422 as long as you have quicktime installed and up to date on your PC. I have not yet had trouble opening any .mov files spit out from the Mac here. Once again though, I try not to have to so it’s not often.

While I love using Vegas, I do hate the glitches that pop up here and there. If a reboot doesn’t solve the problem, I usually go to intermediates as the next work around.
I may have missed it if you had already mentioned but have you had the flicker when rendering out to non long GOP formats? It’s such an odd issue in that it happens a few seconds after the PNG cuts out.
Anyhow, if it was me, I would try rendering out to Cineform and see if it flickers or maybe even DV since it is an SD project. If it did, I would try jpg instead of PNG just for the heck of it since it’s fast. I know it is unlikely that would help. If all that failed, I would render the actual footage from the cams to something else like good ‘ole cineform and see how it goes even though that is a pain in the rear.

March 1, 2013 at 6:34 pm in reply to: NewBlue Titler Pro 1 and 2 keep crashing Vegas Pro 12Steve is right, it is not Sony’s problem. Also, alot of the time when you uninstall something using the control panel, there are tons of things that do not get uninstalled. Starting a help ticket with NewBlue would be the best route.
On a side note, it is unstable on my system also. In my case, it is fine the first time I use it on a project. I can make all the adjustments I want when first creating the title. After I close it though, any new instance of the Titler or even trying to modify the one I had just created crashes Vegas.
It’s too bad because visually, it is capable of very impressive titles. I didn’t care enough to make the herculean (Sarcasm) effort of contacting their support however.
Let us know how it goes.

Slightly old topic but the Color Match plugin in VP 12 works wonderfully well for me. I recently brought a GH2 into the group of HMC150s that I use for events. I did do a little tweeking to get it close in camera but there were glaring differences in the final video and on the scopes.
Using the color match plugin got them in line WAY better than I expected. When in a semi lighting controlled environment like the reception or an indoor ceremony, it does brightness matching pretty well too. For outdoors, unless the cams have a very similar FOV, brightness is best tweaked manualy.
Bottom line is (For me) it saved me alot of time.

August 27, 2012 at 8:34 pm in reply to: HD footage render to SD results in “green line” on rightThank you. That worked. For some reason, I was also able to get it to render without the Green Bar at 856×480 as well.

Well, at least you got a reply. I just got the silent treatment from them.
It’s very unfortunate they decided to drop it since the functionality was already there. At least they could offer it as a downloadable or custom install option for those of us that are able to use it.

Interestingly enough, I am running Vegas 10 on Windows7 64bit and still have this exact problem with my Canon XHG1s. If I hit play on the camera and then start up the Sony Capture software, it works.
I tried updating the MS 1394 driver but it says I have the most current. I am up to date with my windows updates as well.
If it’s fixed, I am definately missing something.

Just Submitted a ticket asking just that.

Well, I had been using a trial of Vegas 9 and was very happy with it. I was also very happy with the network render and had set up a Raid 0 array on another computer to share on the network.
I ordered my copy of Vegas Pro and it was delayed because version 10 had just come out. I thought that was great. I played with 10 a little today and was very impressed with the image stabilization.
Then I went to set up network rendering and it is no where to be found. A search of the help file reveals that any mention of it is gone as well. Why the heck would you do that??????????????????????
What possible benefit could Sony have from removing that feature? I hope they don’t sell it as a seperate product now.
