one of the mport options allows you to import multichannel audio. and if already imported you can modify and change the multichannel setting to stereo.

We have an HP Z800 with the std 580 card and it works fine. Very stable.
But we had to manually add in enough power sockets so i wouldn’t push the power.

If you can consolidate then do. If its not an Avid native res then transcode.
cut like that and then remind to the AMA at the end so you can finally transcode to your output resolution.
That’s our preferred way.
But done a number of jobs with weeks of offline done direct to hundreds of hours of direct linked AMA footage.
Works really well.
Do we get AMA files dropping offline? Do we get odd files that won’t relink at the end? Sure we do but even the time lost sorting that is a fraction of the time gained not converting media.
We’ve made significant budget and time savings using AMA for Post work and the AMA functionality is improving all the time.
You just have to manage it right.

Do you have external scopes connected to check levels with?

If you output colour bars in MC V6 how do they look on the monitor.

Have you checked the decklink card settings and made sure they are all default?

Also re MC V6 on the PC these cards currently capture with a 1 frame offset compared to the timecode so no use for capturing. They seem to be ok for digital cut as long as you don’t have any output processing enabled.

I don’t understand why the Resolve generated AAF back to Avid can’t cope with the same clip used multiple times?
It’s irrelevant that the incoming AAF to Resolve only had reference to one clip. The outgoing AAF maybe based on that but it could hold references to the newly created graded shots. In the same way Avid could and would send differences if the sources hadn’t been the same.

Clearly it’s still complex and evolving and at best it’s important not to imagine A Resolve round trip is like working in Avid and doing you color correction. This is no different to the early days of FCP and color. You had loads of flexibility if you used the FCP CC but if you wanted the scope of the color round trip it suddenly got a whole lot more complex and limiting (especially early on)

So it’s important to work within the limitations of the workflow and balance what you need from it against what you lose by going that route.

We have a DS and use that for final grading sometimes and even with the greater integration that gives it still has to be managed and the expectations of the client and editor managed.

We are looking at resolve as a final grading tool and folks will need to have picture lock (maybe the odd VFX replacement at most)
This isn’t going to be the same as the up to the wire offline edit/grade some clients seem to work to.

Normally an import would identify if the file had an avid “native” codec and if so and it didn’t match the import settings you had selected it would pop up with a dialogue asking if you wish to ignore your import choices and fast import or import using the settings you’d selected and effectively re-encode (and then ask if you wanted that done for all remianing files or not)
It’s often easier to AMA link and then consolidate of course.

as long as the drives are spun up and online before you launch MC we’ve not had them drop off as a regular issue. Maybe once or twice in a 3 week edit.
But if you remount the AMA files into a new bin and that brings the clips in the original bins back online. Deleteing the new AMA clips shouldn’t take the media offline again for the older clips. That can only be done by demounting the AMA volume. Don’t forget if you close that bin and then outside MC move it elsewhere it’s now effectively vanished just as if you’d deleted the clips but no media relationships have changed and any clips that had linked to the external media should (and I’ve always found they have) stay linked.

Sounds like an issue with spanned clips if it’s duration related.

For clarity it’s best to not refer to “imported” AMA as we still have import as an option. I refer to is as linking to AMA (which you may then consolidate or trancode)

Anyway IF you have re-mounted the AMA clips and they play fine in the source do they not link to the sequence clips?
