There are only certain I/O solutions that Avid supports and they are accessed via the I/O solutions provider as additional software.

Datavideo don’t provide that so you won’t be able to capture directly that way.

However if it has its on capture software I’d capture via that and then ingest the resulting files.

For VHS you probably need a VHS deck with a TBC built in like the Panasonic edit decks do (as do some of the Sony decks and even the JVC decks but they are all professional decks) a domestic deck will likely yield poor results.

Apple removed QuickTime in Catalina in fact they nolonger support any 32bit application support so you can’t install QuickTime or legacy components.

So in MC 2020 Avid have added an alternative.

In the export list at the bottom you have MOV and MP4 these allow you to select a codec including H264 It’s much faster and simpler than earlier versions.

What do you get if you AMA link instead of import? (you can the transcode if you need it to be Avid media)

    Yes it’s not supported.

Catalina dropped QuickTime and only MC 2020 has an alternative mechanism (called UME).

    Try creating new user settings.

If that doesn’t work make a new project and Copt the bins over.

Hi Helen that’s not a normal Avid workflow.

Renaming projects can be problematic. You have to rename the project folder and the. Avp file and the project settings.

But Avid media created and linked media is managed by Avid based on the name of the project and you can’t alter that.

The normal workflow would be to AMA link the HQ source files.

(This could be in an ingest project or can be in the main project)

Transcode to proxy media. Move those proxy master clips to a new bin(copy that bin to the main project if using 2 projects)

Contact me if you need more help off list.

Transcode the timeline to a proxy resolution.

    ProRes LT or similar.

And yes lacie drives aren’t the best for masses of media.

I’d get a USB 3 SSD drive to transcode to.

Even at 80 mins of footage you won’t need a very large drive. 512GB would be plenty.

With that much AMA linked media online you may need to turn off AMA managed media and trash the AMA databases.

  • Are you working on shared storage? That’s how Avid manages multiple users in the same media files location.

Did you try making new user settings. And is Enable bin sharing on 3rd party storage ticked in general settings (it should be unticked)

Most NLEs vary speed by removing frames or duping frames or blending frames. All will alter smoothness of motion.

In Media Composer you can try fluid motion effect. In Premiere it’s optical flow I think.

They are processor heavy and can introduce their own issues.
