Hello, I recently duplicated my Avid project and renamed the duplicate copy to indicate it was the pro res HQ copy. I then linked all the pro res files in that project, closed it, and when I reopened the original proxy project (with its original name) it was all offline and weirdly mirroring changes I’d done in the HQ copy. I’m worried if I relink now to all the proxy files in this project that those linkings will appear in the HQ copy. Any advice most appreciated 🙂 I’m using Avid 2018v12.

Hi Helen that’s not a normal Avid workflow.

Renaming projects can be problematic. You have to rename the project folder and the. Avp file and the project settings.

But Avid media created and linked media is managed by Avid based on the name of the project and you can’t alter that.

The normal workflow would be to AMA link the HQ source files.

(This could be in an ingest project or can be in the main project)

Transcode to proxy media. Move those proxy master clips to a new bin(copy that bin to the main project if using 2 projects)

Contact me if you need more help off list.

Typically, simply duplicating your timeline before any relinking, or linking to new versions is all that is required to keep your original versions safe.
