You need to have the latest point release for bin compatibility. But even then many features from V8 can’t be understood. Iike frame flex and LUTs

Dual boot is the only way to do it. But you then have 2 OS’s to manage etc

  • You need to have the latest point release for V7 which is 7.0.4.2
Also easier and safer to not swop projects just bins and media.

  • To avoid odd project setting coming across I prefer to make a fresh project of the same name (so media shows up in media tool under that project) the copy and paste bins from old project into new project. Obviously old project needs to be located in a different location to new one.
But as long as project versions are similar projects should move around ok.

  • If Avid can see the media it will show up in media tool.
    So start there.

I also know other resellers are still taking orders.
I suspect Avid is allowing some slack for the order backlog.

January 5, 2015 at 10:34 pm in reply to: Relinking transcoded files to original AMA

Do you still have any bins of the original AMA linked clips or know how they were ingested, Transcoded?
Transcoded clips lose timecode if the framerate isn’t the same as the project framerate.

I presume the freshly AMA’d clips have the correct timecode and the ones in the sequence have the wrong timecodes?

It shouldn’t be possible to AMA link the files and transcode and lose the original source timecode. But sounds like it’s happened somehow.

Make sure the ama clips bin is open amd clips selected. Then right click the sequence and choose relink. Make sure current project at the top is deselected. Make sure all dtives is selected. Make sure any HD video format is selected. Don’t tell it to ignore extension (the clip name isn’t important its the source file name)
Then choose “to selected open bins” and relink.
Or come on the Avid media management course I run for VET where we do that complete workflow 🙂

  • Many RAW formats are compressed some aren’t. But you can’t export out the RAW media as a cut sequence.
You would either transcode to a finishing resolution making what adjustments you want to the RAW. Or transcode to a lower res for fast editing and relink later in the grade to the RAW.
but which ever route you won’t output RAW.
