  • Migrating projects back and forth between AVID 7 AND AVID 8

Posted by Jake Frader on January 15, 2015 at 3:15 pm

Does anyone know if I can go back and forth from Avid 7 and 8 (Open a project in Avid 8, then the next day open a project in Avid 7, and vice versa?). Will the project files remain intact?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you!

Everything will be fine. However, whatever features you use that are MC 8 only, that MC7 doesn’t have…won’t transfer back. Such as deactivating clips in the timeline…4K media support…stuff like that.

You need to have the latest point release for V7 which is 7.0.4.2
Also easier and safer to not swop projects just bins and media.

    Hi,

will i be able to migrate back and forth between 6.5 and 8 just as easily? or does this only work for versions 7 and 8?

    Thanks for your help

Bin and project wise, yes. But many new features found in MC8 won’t be in MC6.5.

Does it have to be 7.0.4.2 or is 7.0.4 good enough?

    It’s the last .2 that makes this possible. It’s a free update…

Cool. Thanks. I am assuming the 7.0.4.4 update will do the trick as well. Do you have any idea if the 7.0.4.4 update supports projects created in MC8 on PC to migrate back and forth from MC 7.0.4.4 on Mac?

    Sorry…, I meant .4.

Q: Is the Media Composer | Software (v8) license backwards compatible to Media Composer v7 or earlier?
A: We have released Media Composer 7.0.4 and Media Composer 6.5.4.2 that will run on a Media Composer | Software (v8) perpetual software or dongle license. They will not, however, run using a Subscription or Floating license. Please refer to this Knowledgebase article for more information.

You need the latest patches in order to do this….basically.
