I realize this is an old thread, but this problem is plaguing me as well (3+ years after this thread started). I am using the Kona LHi card with version 10.4.4 of the driver software. I’m not using any external decks nor syncing with anything externally so Genlock is on Free Run. In Final Cut Pro version 7.0, I get the crackling and popping it seems about every 20 plays or so. Also, even after I hit space bar stopping playback, the crackling continues and then “fizzles out” after a few seconds. Also, it seems to be slightly amplitude related. In other words, if a piece of audio is a little louder than another, it crackles just a little more than parts of the program that are softer. I just played a video for a client and I heard it throughout…but it was fairly faint. Luckily the client didn’t notice it.

Every time I get it, I can stop playback and start again, backup to the same section, etc and it’s nice and clean. It’s like there’s some “dirt in the fuel line” or something? If anyone has found a solid fix, please post it here. It would be much appreciated!

I’ve also noticed that FCP’s Viewer usually doesn’t immediately update it to showing as progressive either. You have to “force” the Viewer to update by turning the clip off or on (Control B), or briefly scaling it up and back down (don’t use Cmd Z/undo to put it back…you have to manually put the scale back to where it was), OR, bring the opacity down a bit then back up (again, don’t use “Undo” to put it back as it will go back to “fieldy”). The quickest method I’ve found is the opacity change on the timeline itself as long as you have “Show Keyframe Overlays” selected in your sequence settings. “Tis a pain indeed!

I’m having a similar strange problem, but it seems to only be the Control+V cutting function. All the other keyboard functions seem to be working OK. And in fact, there are times when Ctrl+V works just fine while editing and then, seemingly for no reason, it just quits working?? I’ve tried restarting FCP, the alternate Control button, choosing default keyboard layout and nothing seems to help it. And then at some point it will come back working for who knows what reason?? I don’t think there’s anything wrong with my keyboard (older Apple Wireless) as the Control+B function still works and the V key works in all other instances. Weirdness??

I must be one of the lucky ones. I was having the error and found this thread. I was reading all of the posts when one of my co-workers came in and suggested I just close and relaunch AE. I remembered that I had left it RAM Previewing all night so I thought that probably would be a good thing. Also, instead of using one of my saved render settings and output modules, I just manually put in the settings that I wanted in both. Not sure which of those fixed it but I’m back to happy rendering now!
