Nope, no idea why since we don’t know which keyboard you’re using. There are multiple keyboards out there.

Did you install the software that comes with the keyboard?

Did the Mac properly recognize that keyboard?

I have a standard final cut keyboard. There is a label on the keyboard “MAC Edit /ION) Special keyboard USD Version, Final Cut Pro). The Mac recognizes it properly. As i bought the keyboard, there was not keyboard software delivered with it. The proplem is that when I work with this keyboard, then all the standard apple shortcuts dont work.

Are you using the English language FCP software or something else? I don’t know what keyboard this is. There is no standard FCP keyboard except the keyboards made by Apple. Please confirm this is a QWERTY keyboard. Specifically what keyboard shortcuts are not working? Does Cmd-Q work? Cmd-W?

    All the best,

I believe only a QWERTY keyboard can be used. The Z and Y keys are in the wrong position.

from Piero Fiorano on the Apple FCE forum:

I’m afraid you ran into the non-US keyboard problem with shortcuts for FCE running on Leopard (Mac OS 10.5).
While once I had the same problem (together with some other posters from Europe) suddenly it disappeared for me, probably as a result of some system software update. But I could not find out exactly when.

In any case there is a workaround:
    – Open the International panel of System Preferences
    – click the Language tab
    – drag “English” to the top of the list (on top of your current language)
    – drag back your current language to the top of the list
    – close System Preferences
    – (close if necessary and) open FCE: shortcuts should be fixed.

This seems to work till the next system startup; then you have to repeat this procedure…

Thanks a lot. now it functions almost correct. the only problem is that the mac recognizes alt button as apple, and apple button as alt. do you have any idea why?
