Hello,
if you are using unbalanced speakers, your problem could be due to the need of stereo jack connectors for “mono” audio channels. There was a link on the BlackMagic website, that was probably removed (I can’t find it now).

Paolo

Hello George,
the Intensity Pro is not a professional product; it can be used for betacam SP I/O, but its video quality is not its best feature, and it lacks of RS422 and balanced audio.
The best product for your needs may be the Decklink Studio 2, that features all connections you may need, at a very nice price. If you get crashes and frame drops, they are not due to the Intensity Pro. It works very well. They are all due to your workstation and/or editing software.
Q9550 is very old, but Core i7 975 (Quad core) is not so new too. It was replaced by Ci7-X980 more than a year ago, while current high end CPUs are two six core models, Ci7-970 and Ci7-X990.

Hi Ryan,
have you tried adding a TBC to your workflow? Intensity Pro doesn’t have a TBC on board, and I’m always compelled to add it when capturing from VHS or Umatic. I recently captured a 20 year VHS archive without a problem. I’m using a Panasonic DVD recorder in E-E as TBC and a professional capturing software (ivsCapture, under Windows).Best Regards,

Hello,
in my opinion the best Host Bus Adapters are from 3ware (now an LSI brand), Promise and Areca. The Arecas often use a fan on the heatsink (that means noise and/or one more thing that can fail), Promise and 3ware are both wonderful products, with similar web applications to manage the Arrays. If you’re going for the Promise, and you’d like to handle RAID5 or RAID 6 (the best Raid level), I suggest you to consider Supertrack family only (and not the Fastrack ones). Moreover, when you place your order, check if the cables in the box meet your requirements (I’m usually compelled to order extra cables).
Best Regards,
Paolo

Hello Joe,
in my opinion the BMD price performance ratio is much better than AJA one, and since I consider only PC editing, I found in the past BMD drivers better.
About the Ultrastudio Pro, it hasn’t nothing to do with Canopus! It’s a very powerful product, i.e. an external Decklink Studio 2. USB 3.0 has a big bandwidth, but if you want to use it with a laptop, be aware that currently there is just one certified Notebook.

December 12, 2010 at 5:37 pm in reply to: Sony Vegas Pro 10 – Blackmagic Decklink Studio 2Hello Frank,
in your system description I don’t see your monitor (brand/model).
If your monitor has the DVI-D input and you are converting the HDMI to it, it will not work (I made this experience…).
I’m now using with the Studio 2 and Intensity Pro a cheap Asus VE248H, LED backlight, wonderful results on steady images, some blur on horizontal camera movements. I have another Asus full HD display, VE246H, identical design and chassis, but it is good as a VGA monitor, but a disaster as Video Monitor!Best Regards,

Hello Mark,
the Intensity Pro features a YUV output, the right source for the UVW-1800, but it lacks of the onboard serial port (9 Pin RS-422) needed to remote the Betacam SP VTR. I don’t know if any software allows you to use the serial port of your PC in conjunction with the Intensity Pro.
In my opinion the best device for the Betacam SP I/O is currently the Decklink Studio (2), that features YUV output, Balanced Audio, and an on board RS-422 port.Best Regards,

Hello Joe,
if you need to preserve video quality, the Firewire converter is something you have to avoid. The problem is not only the compression ratio of 5:1, but overall performances of the DV codec are poor (Compression Ratio/Resulting quality is not good). If you want to preserve the video quality, you’d need a PCI-E capture card, and among BMD solutions (the best ones for the Price/Performances ratio) I’d suggest you the Decklink Studio 2 (that features the better Analog connections with separated Y/C connectors and HDMI I/O).
If you’d decide to buy the Decklink Studio 2, don’t forget to order 4 JACK to RCA converters (stereo JACK to mono RCA), because, usually, sooner or later, all people need them (0,25Euro Each…).Note: I wrote Decklink Studio 2, because there are 2 editions of the board, but don’t search the “2nd edition” on the BMD website… All the new ones are “2nd edition”, if you’d decide to buy a used unit, you could find first edition too…
Note2: For PC users. There was a BMD suggestion to not to use all 1X PCI-E cards on the X58 chipset. I always used them all (Intensity Pro, Decklink Studio 2) on Asus P6T Deluxe without problems.

Hi Adam,
usually S-VHS tape had the S-VHS logo on it.
The most widely used (and better) S-VHS tape was the Fujifilm H471 (I hope to be right, I don’t see one since more than 10 years!)There was a slight hardware difference between VHS and S-VHS, a small hole (I used to make the same hole on the VHS tape to make them S-VHS…)

Hello John,
I bought my first intensity Pro at 386,00Euro…I’m reading your post, but I don’t see the version of drivers you are using. Are sure you’re using the last build?
BTW, on my setups (Intel Ci7, Asus P6T Deluxe V2, Win 7 pro 64bit) the Intensity Pro are working without any problems (I don’t use Media Express, but it seems to work too).Best Regards,
