Hello,

Below I describe my technical issue. I too get this error.

System specs:
Avid Express Pro with Mojo
HP xw8400(brand new system)
Graphics card: Nvida Quadro FX 1500/PCI/SSE2 (running driver version (6.14.10.9185)

Avid Tech support wanted me to update so I did …which did not solve the problem as descriped below.

I followed the procedure for uninstalling 5.2 and installing the 5.7.5 update. I did this procedure twice and installing this update did not solve my issue.

I launched a new project, brought in new video, placed a PIP effect of the video, adjusted some parameters and it plays back fine. I then go to the lower right hand corner of the effect pallet and promote the PIP to 3D and try to play back…it plays fine. I adjust the rotation x,y, & z and the scaling and added a border and added trails and all plays back fine. Here is some new information on the problem! When I add a shadow OR a Shape (ball) the machine locks up, stops playing and gives me this error, Exception: Unable to stop Spring Buffer’s FillThread.

So I try to move off of the effect to another area of the timeline and the screens go to black for 2-3 seconds and then return with this error being displayed, Exception: std::exception, what:Error c0000005 in thread “Spring Buffer Fill thread”, ACCESS_VIOLATION, at address 01E84BFO. When I try and recover from that error, the screens go black again and then I came back to the timeline with a red bar across the bottom of the timeline where the 3D-PIP is located. If I try to do anything else, the machine freezes with an hour glass and I need to reboot.

So does this mean it is a hardware problem? Please advise me further as to how to remedy this problem.
I will need the ability to make shadows and shapes in future edits!

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Jake,

You should be able to mouse over the lower right hand corner or left hand corner of your source/record monitors and see a double headed arrow icon then, click it and drag th monitors in or out to the size that you need. Then go up to Toolset and “save current” whatever is checked there will save your settings.

Assuming the footage is going to be imported and not “digitized”…when you import the footage into Avid, be sure to click the options button within the import menu. You will come across the Import Setting Dialogue box. In the Aspect Ratio, Pixel Aspect settings you will probably want to choose maintain square or maintain and resize square. But, not having seen the footage…I cannot be sure. If the file is short you can try inporting it all four ways. The first two ways stretch the picture to fit the screen…that isn’t what you want. I have had success with this when one of my clients brings me computer games to transfer…his games are not “full screen” either.

Hi there,

I went to an Avid Liquid demo the other day and the demo artist said that Avid Liquid is able to import the VOB file directly. He did it and lo and behold it worked.

But, I have Express Pro HD also and I just hook up a DVD player to the video and audio in on my Sony DSR-11 deck and digitize by bypassing the deck.

Hi there,

Hey, I was told that there is no such thing as a dumb question!

All AVID’s have certain media management tools built right into the bin. Besides being able to look at the clips in your bin by: brief, Text, Frame and Script,
you have the ability to sort (ctrl+E) and do a custom sift.

To do a sort: While in Text view click the Name heading to highlight it then CTRL+E to sort that heading.

To custom sift: Choose which bin of clips you want to sift, while in Text view, go to the burger menu at the bottom left of the bin and choose custom sift.
The Custom Sift dialogue box appears and you plug in the information you want to do a search on, hit apply and the bin will update to show you the clips that it found that match your search criteria. Go back into the burger menu to choose show UNsifted and your original bin is restored. Avid will save the last sift that you made on that bin so you can toggle via the burger menu to see the sifted and unsifted views.

Now, on a larger media management scale you have the media tool. I’d suggest reading the manual or a good Avid book on this…this can be your best friend or your worst nightmare. Lets say that I’m working in Project A but, I remembered that I used this awesome animated background in another project X just the other day…but, I don’t have the original file to inport fresh into this project or I can’t remember the name etc. Go to the Tools menu and select Media Tool. Tell the Media Tool to search all drives for Project X and check Master Clips. This will go and find all the Master Clip media from Project X on whatever drives the media lived on. Spot the clip or clips that you want and literally drag them from the media tool into your bin to “borrow” the media. Of course, Project X’s media has to be “on-line” for this to work.

I hope this helps…I’m not real sure what you meant by “control clips and files between projects.”
