Hi I’m brand new to AVID – have Xpress Pro on a MAC G5 with no mojo. PAL

I have a couple of questions.

    1. when I first opened Avid – i could resize the 2 composer windows making them as big or small as I liked. I can’t figure out how to do this any more. How come?

    2. I also have a project where the footage has been suplied at 420×270 (16×9, but not FHA) – the final output is not needed at a 720×576 resolution (PAL) – so how do I import this footage and set up my sequence/project to keep to this aspect, and not resisze everything up to 720×576?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Jake,

You should be able to mouse over the lower right hand corner or left hand corner of your source/record monitors and see a double headed arrow icon then, click it and drag th monitors in or out to the size that you need. Then go up to Toolset and “save current” whatever is checked there will save your settings.

Assuming the footage is going to be imported and not “digitized”…when you import the footage into Avid, be sure to click the options button within the import menu. You will come across the Import Setting Dialogue box. In the Aspect Ratio, Pixel Aspect settings you will probably want to choose maintain square or maintain and resize square. But, not having seen the footage…I cannot be sure. If the file is short you can try inporting it all four ways. The first two ways stretch the picture to fit the screen…that isn’t what you want. I have had success with this when one of my clients brings me computer games to transfer…his games are not “full screen” either.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks Pamela

on the first issue – resizing composer window – I cannot make it any bigger than a certain size – which wasn’t the case originally. It could go as big as I wanted.

Regards importing footage -thanks for the tip that’s worked great. However my sequence stills appears to be 720×576 as my 480×270 footage sits with black all around it – I want to have the footage filling the screen, without scaling it up and losing resolution. I guess I’m asking how do I change my sequence settings to match my footage settings as I’ll want to end up exporting it as a quicktime (480×270) with no black borders.
