Well, I have never done it since I cant seem to make the yellow line transparent. I would assume looking at the difference in color from inside the mask vs outside would be a good indicator of where the line is. As for the difference in lines I guess you wouldnt really be able to. I would want the yellow dots still there just not the mask line. I think I’m coming to the conclusion that this is more of a wish list than a practicality. Thank you everyone.

Create the shadow manually by duplicating the layer thats casting the shadow. Rotate the duplicate 90 degrees on the X axis. Use hue and saturation (or your prefrence) to color the image black. Apply blur on EACH layer (not an adjustment layer) then parent them together. As for motion blur with shadows. I dont think AE recognizes them when casting with a light isnt the shadow a property of the light? The light doesnt allow effects to be put on it so Im guessing this is one of the only ways to cast with effects.

I dont want to turn the mask off completly/hide it. I was just wondering if there was a way to turn the lines off but keep the dots. For me, smaller roto jobs would go a lot faster if this was an option.

That helps clrify a little bit, I still dont understand the whole .thiscomp.Layer() thing, Im gussing things like this are already programmed into AE? I was trying to link two layers together and I couldn’t figure it out. This whole scripting thing is a confusing wall to bust through. The math doesnt confuse me, its how AE reads it.
