  • Thanks Jim.
I work just like you mentioned. I have my system on C, audio/video and project files on D and non-system software on F drive.
I didn’t loose any projects. The files deleted were applications and plugins which I had a backup of.

The problem is caused by Sony uninstall script deleting files and folders that do not belong to Sony installation.

  • After I had my files deleted on my machine, I tested it on another XP system and it did the same. (No worry for w7 users. I tested it and it uninstalls properly)

Uninstall apps usually never touches any files and folders that do not belong to that specific installation. It appears the uninstall tool Sony uses does not check whether the files that are going to be removed are installed by Sony Setup or not.

You can test it on a XP system by installing Vegas 10 in a `Test` folder. Copy some dummy files and folders into this ‘Test’ folder before starting install (for populating it like a `Program Files` folder). Then, run Setup and change install path to `Test` folder. When you uninstall, Setup deletes the ‘Test’ folder completely.

    I agree that is odd.
People who have Vegas installed like above should get a backup before running uninstall.

Well it appears your is not related to the problem I mentioned.

BTW I tested it and managed to recreate it. Sony Setup deleted the `Program Files` folder, again.

I’ll post a seperate treat about it.

PS: The version regarding the issue is 10, not 11. My typo.

I’m not sure if it’s related to your issue but I used to have disappearing files issue with Vegas 11 too…

I installed Vegas 11 Trial last week. I usually install most of my apps to F: drive so I changed the path. Most setup utility auto-completes the path for you, eg; when you point to “f:Programs Folder”, it auto adds the tailing path string “SonyVegas” etc…

    Well, Sony setup didn’t.

It also does not allow you to edit the path string as text so you can simply replace the drive letter in the path text; eg, “C:Program FilesSony” to “F:Program FilesSony”

I just pointed to `F:Program files` and expected it to complete it but Sony Setup installed it right in the `Program folder` root!

I noticed this after clicking ok and waited for setup to finish.
I uninstalled it and tada! My Programs File folder got about 35 deleted subfolders which contained files not related to Sony installation.

PS: You should know that I did not try to recreate and test this. I’m not %100 sure that it’s a Sony Setup bug or a disk drive or a file table corruption. But I’m going to test it again when I have the time.

All I know is Setup tools that does not auto-complete paths sucks!

  • I tested it again with RAM preview set to zero and render time dropped from ~600 secs to 51 secs.! 😀 Thanks Jeff.

Someone should tell this to Sony guys so they can advertise new Sony Vegas Pro 11 with a tagline such as “%1200 rendering performance improvement” 😛

  • Thanks for the response. I’m not on my machine now, iirc, preview RAM was set to 350 MB. I’ll try setting it to a lower (or zero) value and test it as I get back home.

My system has 4 HDs and the drive with lowest free space has ~6 GB free.

I assume it’s an issue regarding my system since no one replied saying they had a low memory error.

..or I’m asking the wrong question. May be I should ask `Anyone NOT seeing an error doing the test above?` to be sure that people actually test it.

Looks like a memory leak or deficient error handling.
I have the same issue with MainConcept MP4 encoder on Vegas Pro 9
    Here is how to recreate the bug;

Render any video as MP4 using MainConcept AVC/AAC encoder.
Choose Apple IPod 320×240 template and open Custom panel.
    Set Frame Rate to 15,
Set Constant Bit Rate to 192.000

Try rendering it and you should have a `low memory` warning.

Pan/Crop is better for zooming in.
I suggest you try using Track Motion for scaling down.
