I was playing around with some motion GIF’s and the croma key function. Everything was working fine with the GIF’s playing with a normal video background, until I got an error message and the program wanted to shutdown. It asked me if I wanted to send a message to Sony about the problem, and the “system info” at the time of failure. I clicked the yes button, and it sent the message.

I went back to playing with the motion GIF’s and the croma key, and after a bit it failed again. I decided to call it a day and exit the program.

The next day I went to edit a video with some more clips I shot, and I couldn’t find the files when I clicked on the the “open” window in Vegas. ???? I went into Windows Explorer to see if I could click on one of the files, and found that Vegas has wiped out “all the files and sub directories under the main file that Vegas sets up in the “My Documents” directory. Nothing, nada, zilch. All gone. ????

What happened??? Is this common? I’ve gone to putting the files in a completely different directory, but I don’t know if Vegas will try to kill them there if it gets hungrey again.

Vegas deleting your files? Thats really odd.
What version of Vegas are you using, try reinstalling it.

I’m not sure if it’s related to your issue but I used to have disappearing files issue with Vegas 11 too…

I installed Vegas 11 Trial last week. I usually install most of my apps to F: drive so I changed the path. Most setup utility auto-completes the path for you, eg; when you point to “f:Programs Folder”, it auto adds the tailing path string “SonyVegas” etc…

    Well, Sony setup didn’t.

It also does not allow you to edit the path string as text so you can simply replace the drive letter in the path text; eg, “C:Program FilesSony” to “F:Program FilesSony”

I just pointed to `F:Program files` and expected it to complete it but Sony Setup installed it right in the `Program folder` root!

I noticed this after clicking ok and waited for setup to finish.
I uninstalled it and tada! My Programs File folder got about 35 deleted subfolders which contained files not related to Sony installation.

PS: You should know that I did not try to recreate and test this. I’m not %100 sure that it’s a Sony Setup bug or a disk drive or a file table corruption. But I’m going to test it again when I have the time.

All I know is Setup tools that does not auto-complete paths sucks!

    Found the files.

I did a google search for info, and saw the youtube one’s on turning on the “hidden files” feature. There were some files there (I could not quess why “those” files would be there)and I saw that what I wanted wasn’t there.

Just for S&G’s, I decided to click on all the other file holders in my computer to see if they contained the missing files. I found all the sub-folders and all the raw video files, and finished videos in a file directory that had nothing to do with videos or Sony Vegas 10.

When the error occured in Vegas 10, the program must have played 52 card pickup with all the Vegas files. I don’t know why the Sony made on installation file heading “Vegas Movie Studio HD Platimum 10.0 Progects” under the “My Documents” was not moved too.

Maybe it’s Sony’s way to screw me again for using a Canon Camera. I have no idea why Sony’s Sound Forge won’t edit audio files from my Canon Camera. I wish I had know that before I bought Vegas.

Well it appears your is not related to the problem I mentioned.

BTW I tested it and managed to recreate it. Sony Setup deleted the `Program Files` folder, again.

I’ll post a seperate treat about it.

PS: The version regarding the issue is 10, not 11. My typo.
