September 3, 2006 at 7:24 am in reply to: MacPro with Atto card and 4 GB of Ram !! problem ?Hi Bob,
i am a video reseller who likes to test his client’s turnkey solution
before he goes and install them.I just wanted to make sure this was a bug before i call my client on monday and break
the news to him ( no biggies really), and wanted to make people aware of this issue before
they go out and buy their newPacPro ( which goes for the BM and AJA customers hence my post on these forum).Regards

Hi Bart,
actually this problem i unveilled was initially with a blackmagic card ,only when my atto distributor did try
to replicate the problem we realised it did affect the Kona card ( we was successfull in rcreating the problem ).
I might try to replicate with this behaviour with our demo AJA card at work later this week.I did post this problem on the Blackmagic and the Final Cut pro threads so all of us can benefit and be aware of this issue ,
you’ve got to give back to the cow !!Regards

Hi Guys,
i have one question for the MacPro users with the Atto card (42ES)
with external raid (whatever brand Ciprico or infortrend). My question is: are you using more than 2GB of Ram??
On the system i’m building (Xeon 3GHz with 4GB/Atto 42ES/FCP 5.1.1/QT7.1.2) i’m able to kernal panic my macpro everytime
i hit render !! load the Mac with 2GB and everything is cool..
3GB and the render will fail after 4 or 5% progress… i tried everything Ram wise ( swap brand…..) no joy…If i try the Atto card in a quad load the same fime and render… no
problem…
If i install an Apple FC card in the MacPro with 4GB it works !!Now the weird part is that my Atto distributor here in australia was able to recreate the problem on 2 different machines with 2 different cards too!!!
This affects the AJA cards and the Blackmagic cards too!!Spooky !! the crash logs point out to the Atto card drivers…
i pulled my hair on this one for a few hours !!i was forwarded an email from AJA saying that the driver for the MacPro
and the Kona 3 only supported 2GB of Ram !!Can anyone share some light on this…
we’ve sent the log to Atto …

Hi,
On which machine media 100 is installed?
If you capture from media 100 which is on another system into the decklink SDi which is in your MacPro, then you won’t need the media 100 codec.

Hi Matthieu,
Do not look any further, this is most probably the answer, especially if you’re new to fcp 5.
This is one of the most commun problem editors ( new or experienced ) ran into with this new version ( might even have started with version 4, cannot remember now).
Salut
[Oliver Peters] “Are all the color selections checked in the pull-down menu for sequence render settings (from the top menu bar). If not, checked all of them and render the entire sequence. See if this works.”

Hi Jase,
I would try to cut dv with the dv easy set up in fcp or remove the kona to see if it
is fcp the culript, even doing dv with and internal Hd you shouldn’t see that lag.
If it’s smooth sailing then it would have to be card/drivers related.i haven’t tested 10.4.4 and qt 7.04 as i’ve been to flat out building edit suite but i
aven’t got a good feeling, i’m still running 10.4.2 or qt 7.01 or 7.03 as it’s been a solid combo.
I haven’t experienced any lag with the Kona or Decklink card on the Quad.
Good LuckRegards

i’m aware of that.
it seems there is an issue with the desktop preview and standard def with some cards
AJa is aware of this and said this will be fixed with the release of the new drivers according to an email sent by Aja tech support to our Australian distributor.thanks for your help though
