  • HI Steve,

Thank you for sharing your experience, may i ask what is the model number of the QNAP you are using
and if you did have the chassis fully populated with drives?
Are you editing workstations direct connected to the shared storage or are you using a 10GbE
Ethernet switch, and if so which one.

    Bob rocks !!

    Great info Chris,
and thank you for sharing your findings.

I’m setting up a Mac Pro Based NAS Graphic Server/ Video server
    Mac Pro Cylinder 10.10.5
    Atto Thunderlink Fibre 16GB to an Infortrend 16 Bay ( R/W 1.1GB/S )
SANLink2 10GBase-T peer to peer to clients ..

    Protocol used is AFP,

I’ve used a couple of systcl.conf, your settings works quite well within our scenario,
I’ve managed to get some really nice speed out of the system however under AFP connection the read and the write speed is ramping up where as under SMB connection the speed ( 750MB ) kicks in instantaneously !!
I can’t work out for the life of me this issue any suggestions are welcome …

I have not seen Speed ramping issue on any system i have previously configured ..

  • Hi Peter,

I always recommend my clients to transcode to Pro res
( especially any codec with long gop ).

These codec were definitely not design for editing.

    good luck.

    Hi Bob,
I’m surprised to see that you do not trust Seagate drives anymore,
dare i ask if you used enterprise or desktop models?

We been using enterprise Seagate 1TB with 99% of the raid we’ve sold (infortrend),
and the failure rate has been almost nil.

I have to admit that Seagate had some firmware issues about 8 months ago and we had to update a lot of them.

I have to say we didn’t venture into the 1.5TB.

I remember asking most manufacturer @NAB last year and most of them used Seagate or Itachi.

June 11, 2007 at 1:27 am in reply to: 6.2 Upgrade – Audio issue

    Hi guys,

Indeed i’ ve seen the issue as well.
We could monitor the audio in capture mode but
nothing would be recorded, under the clip settings
in the log and capture window you’d see only 2 audio tracks.
Changing the setting in the Audio System preference to BM,
then going back to the audio/video settings, selecting the 10 bit catpure preset would then allow you to select the Bm sdi audio input.
Before that the only option was,if i do remember well; built in input.

    Hope this helps.
