The rack mount option is quite interesting for facilities that get a few of these machines. Rack them to together with shared storage in close proximity. Keeps the actual edit rooms nice and quiet. Back to the standard facility layout that many may still want.

    Here Alex Gollner’s comments:

I can’t agree with his assessment that ProRes RAW is superior based on compression. Both a compressed codecs. Naturally ProRes RAW is friendlier for Apple hardware and software, but conversely, the actual raw adjustments are not exposed to any software yet that I’m aware of. So there doesn’t seem to be any advantage to using it over a log profile.

[Jeff Markgraf] “OT: Oliver, can you take a look at the thread I started in the Premiere forum? It’s about Premiere to Resolve with R3D footage.”

    I replied there.

  • Hmm… When things like that are badly handled from the beginning, it’s often hard to fix it any other way than a manual fix. Yes, Media Browser is the way to bring RED clips into Premiere. You don’t need XMP in this situation, if everything were done correctly.

On the Resolve side, make sure you bring all of the RED files into your Media Pool first and then import the XML as a timeline and point to the files in your Media Pool. Generally this works, however, the name differences of the spanned clips may cause problems. Your Resolve project rate should still be 29.97 to match the Premiere sequence. When you import the RED clips, do not change the frame rate.

Did the editor do anything to “interpret” the clips in Premiere. Such as change the clip’s base frame rate? If so, Resolve will end up syncing to the wrong part of the clip. I’ve had similar situations from Avid projects and the simplest fix was to over-cut the clips by TC (the old linear editing way) and go clip-by-clip like that until you are done.

  • Well, it just started yesterday. They are probably having too much fun or are just too busy in sessions.

A couple of things to do when you install. This is for macOS, so it may or may not apply for those on Windows.

Premiere resets custom cache locations to the default. So if you route cache files somewhere else, reset those prefs. Check all other Adobe apps as well for their cache assignments.

    Rescan your audio plug-ins.

The various Adobe dock launch icons are not updated. Remove them and then pin the new launchers to the dock.
