Yes, exactly. Converts .mts to high quality .avi with best colorspace in the industry.

I leave my preview window on Draft or Preview, and it is still a little choppy, but not bad. I can imagine that with only two cores it would be impossible. With four fast cores it is not bad, but you still have to leave it on Preview or Draft.

Vegas Pro 9.0a works with AVCHD just fine, with a q9650 CoreDuo Quad at 3.0 GHz. A core i7 is even better, but that would call for a new motherboard.

The only issue with 9.0a is that the Media Generators have a bad bug, but Sony is promising a fix soon. In the meantime I do all my titling in Photoshop (thanks to Mike K.’s help).

Here is what little I know:

64 bit Windows will allow you to use more ram, and like Tyson said it is a little bit faster (but not a whole lot). Whether or not to go 64 bit is entirely up to you.

Cineform NeoScene is just the best .mts (AVCHD) to .avi converter available. It is $99.00 at https://www.videoguys.com. If you have a Q9650 coreduo quad, you don’t really need it, but it is nice to have, as it ‘relaxes’ the file compression quite a bit (i.e., makes the file larger), which means that the processor does not have to work nearly so hard to uncompress those teentsy-weentsy highly-compressed files in real time on the fly while editing. Since your processor has to work less, playback is less choppy: but my q9650 does the job even with stock .mts (avchd) files.

Also get coffee filters, and 95% pure rubbing alcohol (to clean off your heat sink or fan). Arctic Silver has instructions online as to how to install their product. Follow them closely. Or you can call a local computer tech to come do it for you for about $35.00 or something (and you can watch). Don’t use too much. It does not take much. Like maybe about a half inch worth of a toothpick. You just want to fill the tiny thin airgap between processor and the heat sink or fan heat sink.

lots of guys use the 150. it is supposed to be excellent.

I convert to NeoScene .avi, but for a while I could not get it to work, and i used the native .mts files just fine.

I don;t really know 8. I got started with 9.0. 9.0 has problems rendering AVCHD, but 9.0a fixed that bug.

Both 9.0 and 9.0a edits fine with .mts. The preview window gets a little choppy. With a Q9650 CoreDuo Quad at 3.0 GHz, all four cores run at 95%. With Cineform NeoScene the cores run at +/- 57%.

If you want to edit in .mts, I would strongly recommend a Q9650 CoreDuo Quad at 3.0GHz. $320.00 https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115130

I cannot imagine trying to edit AVCHD with a dual core.

I also recommend NeoScene, but that’s up to you.

You can also try DivideFrame, but it is buggy (at least on Core i7 machines).

I don’t know why you would want to stay with .mts instead of converting to .avi, but again that is up to you.

$320.00 for a quad core processor and you should be up and running.

And RAM is cheap. I’d stuff as much RAM as I could get in there.

Are you using 32 or 64 bit Windows?

I’m not real sure, but I think she said she can view clips in the trimmer, but when she drags them to the timeline there is no .sfk audio peaks or video preview. I told her to try reinstalling Vegas, and let us know how it goes.

Has anyone encountered this problem? And what can be done about it?

Better yet to use IrfanView to convert the .jpg’s to .png. For some unknown reason, Vegas likes .png much better, and does not choke on them.

IrfanView.exe is a free download. I hope that helps.

Just get a Q9650 CoreDuo Quad and Cineform NeoScene. Maybe $450.00. Also get more RAM. It is cheaper than a new machine.

I am not an expert, and this might seem kind of basic, but I have seen your avitar before.

Did the problems begin when you downloaded any Windows Updates, or loaded any new programs or plug-ins?

Can you try a System Restore, or try re-installing your plug-ins, to see if that helps?
