Cannot Render
I just completed a 30 minute picture slide show and every time I try to render the video I get an error message that says ” ..Encountered a problem and must close.. I did a search and some of my jpeg pix files are quite large. How do I lower the resolution on these files? Is there a way that I can highlight all the pix files in project media and make the change? Do I have to go to the original folder for each pix and use a photo edit program on each individual pix?
I am using Vegas 9.0 non pro. -

Better yet to use IrfanView to convert the .jpg’s to .png. For some unknown reason, Vegas likes .png much better, and does not choke on them.
IrfanView.exe is a free download. I hope that helps.

Thanks Norman. I do have Irfan but when I change all of the jpeg files to png Sony Vegas says that it cannot find the media. Is there a faster way to tell Sony Vegas that I am substituting all the jpegs in the project media to png?

Does it give you an option to search for the media?
When I do a search, Vegas is smart, and it finds it fast.

A free answer I’m not sure of… but there are relatively cheap programs like Photoshop Elements which contain batch rendering that can take an entire folder of pics and re-configure things like resolution.
As for media off line and search… if you change the name of the file then the media will for sure go off line and the search feature won’t work because it’s looking for a different name. If you change the pic type (change the extension) then that will constitute a name change and you will have to redirect the media off line search manually with each pic. I *think* though that Excalibur has a “media replace” feature if I’m not mistaken?? It’s free to check out anyway.

All I know is that I had a project that was locking up on rendering with multiple large .jpg’s. I downloaded IrfanView.exe a few weeks ago, converted all of my .jpg’s to .png’s, and then everything rendered just fine. Vegas looked for the .jpg’s and could not find them, and it asked if I wanted to do a search. Just on a hunch I said ‘yes’, and it found the .png’s in about twenty seconds.
But Photoshop is also an excellent program, with a lot of features, and it is well worth having.
