Try the easy stuff first. Run a scandisk (and a defrag), and then upgrade to 9.0e. (It is free.)
Also, if that does not work, have you made any hardware or software changes recently? If so, can you roll your system back?

Yeah, the 1.5’s had a major firmware issue when they first came out, but they fixed it. I just had to boost my D:\ a little, and they were on sale for $79.00 each, and I did not feel like paying $200.00 a pop for 2TB’s (x4), or even more for enterprise class.
I’m just trying to buy time until I can afford a new six core system. If I do lose a drive I know I will have to replace it, but I have a ready spare. Also, I should not lose data because it is in Raid 10. So hopefully the worst that would happen is I have to pop the side door and replace a single drive.
And oh yeah, Power Management. Duh! 😐 (Doohh!!)

I should have read your post more carefully. I apologize. I wrote to the good people at FastPictureViewer and their Codec Pack works with DSLR RAW photos, but it does not work with .mov. It is OK, because I am sure I will appreciate it when I get into RAW photos (and for $9.95, how can you go wrong?).
I have a question though: qre you getting thumbnails on your .mov’s in Windows Explorer, or in VLC?
I get thumbnails on my .avi’s in Windows Explorer just fine, and was wondering if it would be a big mistake to try to change the wrapper from .mov to .avi with some kind of transcoder (perhaps Cineform NeoScene?). Would that be a mistake?

I see that you have a separate disk on the VASST Vegas tutorials about Media Manager. I am working my way through the VASST Vegas tutorials (slowly), but I am not there yet.
Is it simple to catalogue the .mov files in Media Manager? Or should I just use Mike’s IrfanView workaround for now, and then wait on Media Manager until I get time to go through the tutorial?

Hi Steve.
I just installed “FastPictureViewerCodecPack” to get my DSLR RAW images to appear in Windows Picture Viewer, and it also gives me thumbnails in Explorer.
It seemed like a great idea, and the price was right. I downloaded and installed the codec pack, and just went with the defaults. However, .mov files are still showing up as the default Q icon in Windows Explorer.
It is a fresh install. I left the ‘always show icons’ option in Windows Explorer un-checked.
Ideas?

Can you do a sample transcode, just to give us an idea of how big the full 1.3TB will be, when it is all transcoded? Also, what kinds of ports do you have on your MacBook for external connections? (I am ignorant of these things, as I am on Vegas/PC). If we know what your exact storage requirement and your connection options are, then it might be possible to troubleshoot better. Or did you decide to go with proxy files?
