How do I keep Raid 10 ‘awake’?
Hi Robert.
I did a clean format and put four each 1.5TB Seagates in RAID 10 (yeah, I know) for my D:\. The RAID 10 went without an issue (it was getting x64 Vista to reinstall that was the pain).
When I click on D:\ inside of Vegas, I get about a five second delay, and I distinctly hear the disks spin up (i.e., ‘wake up’) before I get a listing of what is on D:\.
Is there some setting or switch I can throw to make them ‘stay awake’ all the time? It is a standard Dell T3400 motherboard RAID controller.

I am going to guess at an answer. You are on a Dell, so I assume Windows XP.
Control Panel> Power Options
Power schemes> Always on
Power Schemes> System Standby> Never
System Hibernates: Never
Turn off hard disks> NeverLet me know if this helps. And you know you will eventually develop problems with those 1.5 TB Seagates.

Yeah, the 1.5’s had a major firmware issue when they first came out, but they fixed it. I just had to boost my D:\ a little, and they were on sale for $79.00 each, and I did not feel like paying $200.00 a pop for 2TB’s (x4), or even more for enterprise class.
I’m just trying to buy time until I can afford a new six core system. If I do lose a drive I know I will have to replace it, but I have a ready spare. Also, I should not lose data because it is in Raid 10. So hopefully the worst that would happen is I have to pop the side door and replace a single drive.
And oh yeah, Power Management. Duh! 😐 (Doohh!!)
It’s Vista x64 Ultimate, but thanks. That pointed me in the right direction 🙂 Hopefully I should have it now.

But in reality that could be a lonnnggg time….
But I feel good about having htem in Raid 10.
