In PP 2.0 I get no audio rendering either, and if I attempt to render the auido separately, I get an error message “There are no clips to build.”
Obviously there are. What gives?

Thanks Dave and Ben, both. I do only need the one mask. Maybe it would help to explain my specific need.
I have old Hi8 footage with a black edge on one side where picture scanning did not extend. This edge does not concern me so long as it IS on the edge. But I had to steady this drifting footage. But this meant that the footage edge drifted a fair bit left to right.
Fortunately, the background was static, so I took the first frme of the sequence portion being processed and placed it in the layer below. The effect worked perfectly, except that the black edge of the steadied footage in the top layer intrudes over time into the frame.
It is just this black edge of the steadied layer that I need to remove.
I’m a little wobbly about the terminology. Is ‘layer window’ the same as ‘layer panel’?
Will I need to pre-rendeer my steadied footage before accessing the layer window?

I think I get it.
Now if I am using “non-drop frame” mode (as I note is the sertting I have in Premiere Pro). do I not run the risk of accidentally situating the first or lest frame of a clip on a ‘phantom’ frame and thus crippling my renders by introducing debilitating calculations to conpensate for the clip being out-of-synch?

I understand all that. What I am asking is what is the difference between the options 29.97 drop frame and 29.97 NON drop frame? And what are the advantages and disadvantages of both? Presumably there’s a motivation for the user to choose one 29.97 option one over the other 29.97 option or PREMIERE would not offer the two, as distinct from its other options like 30 frames and 24 frame.

I understand the NTSC system.
Do I comprehend you correctly that the drop frame/non-drop frame distnction refers only to the timeline’s accounting for the NTSC system’s drop frame?
What advantages/disadvantages are there for the two?

I do want the quality. I just don’t understand why it is so strikingly much slower than in previous editions of Premiere Pro. Like 40 minutes to transcode an under one minute sequence of 3 video tracks!

Thanks to you both, Ozpeter and Willie.
I know I am better working with 16 bit than 8 doing restoration, but am I also better working with 192 than 48 KHz?

Nor me.
I have ordered Premiere Pro 2,0, with a healthy scepticism. 1.5 has been such a punishment that if 2.0 does not correct deficiencies straight out of the box, I will raise a stink they’ll smell on Pluto.

My setting is ANIMATION, lossless. I use the export under the FILE menu. Same result, even with another project. Poster frame on the timeline is white, while on screen I see black.
But after so many frustrating problems with PREMIERE PRO and its sloven engineering, I’m beginning to see red.

This is a problem I encounter frequently as well, and I believe it almost certainly contributes to the MPEG compression difficulties I outline in a thread just prior to this one I call “fram’d”.
