I thought about that. The problem is thought is I’d want to use it almost like subclips in FCP 7, making a new keyword for each bite. I worry that will make the system slow. I’m trying to break out of using X like 7. I just am really bugged it isn’t easier to see notes in the timeline.

I did leave feedback! I’m making a bunch of shorts before starting to log a feature this month. I think the lesson I learned is that using and re-naming favorites as a primary organizing principle isn’t the right move. Onto a new workflow!

Quick follow up: Am I right that you also can’t see favorite names in the timeline index? It doesn’t look like you can but I want to be sure.

Good call. All the same, that’s such a huge difference for me. It’s not a deal breaker – I’ll continue learning the program – but it does have me rethinking my choice of X over Avid or Premier. Grrr…..

This was a good article to find!

I’ve been doing lots of work with one track of audio. I always deselect the second mono track which is always empty. Do I need to do that? Would there be a change if I didn’t?

Noah! I think you’ve been helping me for a while now.

I”m making a short film and going through footage, dividing clips I might use into three thematic section. I want to put stuff into the timeline as I see fit. In FCP 7, I’d just have all 3 sections on different tracks. I can’t do that here. Thoughts on how to do this effectively? I do have metada so I can easily pick out the sections I want, but I want to see things grouped together on the timeline as I go along.

So, it works perfectly fine for me on my computer… but I’ve been doing lots of screenings at colleges and often it is choppy on scenes with lots of movement. This is so frustrating. I use Compressor to make the DVD components that I burn with Toast. Any idea what I can do to start narrowing down the problem? Where might I start?

So, if I have now original files and optimized ones, what’s the best way to delete the optimized ones without disconnecting the clips in the library?

The exported files won’t be better on export if I choose optimized media for the import?
