Why do so many industry types use 720 rather than 1080? I’m sure they could get 1080 if they wanted. What’s the appeal of 720? Given the fact it makes little difference, perhaps I’ll stick with 720 (although most likely….i do many different tests of timelines with imperceptible differences but get OCD about which is better….)

I’m not sure which 720 footage I’d use. Is it a bad idea to make the finished product….and upscale with Resolve at the end?

To me, the appeal of zebra lines in FCP 7 was I could tell what was overblown. With the histogram or wave form monitor, I can get a good idea what’s blown out….but I can’t see precisely what it is. Sometimes, if na image is dark enough, I don’t mind if something is overblown if it’s inconsequential and it means I can brighten the rest of the scene. But it’s hard to be as precise for that usage without zebra lines in X.

I know that. But what I want to do is jump to the clip from the browser. Not from the timeline index. Right now, I have about 200 clips in the storyline so the timeline index is crowded and finding a clip isnt easy.

I’ve been importing MP3’s from my Finder into my project. I see the file is copied to my library file, in the original media folder. It still has an .mp3 ending. When I look in the inspector, both the green optimized and original are checked. Is it actually optimized? Wouldn’t that be an AIFF or WAV file?

It seems like the Highpoint one is both a dock and a device i can run an internal hard drive from. For that reason, it seems like a better fit than any of the other Thunderbolt docks. It’s more versatile. Am i wrong?

One other question: when picking the option howard suggested, choosing uppter dominance as the field, should I also click on and choose “deinterlace”?

I know this thread is 3 years old….but has this changed at all? This is exactly what I’m trying to do now! I’d love to rename on capture so the .mov file has the name I want
