1/60 or 1/48 unless you want something different looking. The higher the shutter speed the sharper the motion will be but the more staccato it will look.

There is some sort of TC embedded along with the audio and video coming out of the Firewire connection however I’ve not ever seen any gear that could slave to it. Jam syncing is typically something you do with higher end cameras that have a dedicated time code reference connection. Here’s a link that might explain it in more detail for you:

The tape deck is for standard DV only. DVCPRO50 goes to P2.

Never heard of this issue- sorry. My suggestion would be to log and capture on a clip by clip basis rather than use the whole tape/auto detect method. Takes a little longer but much much more accuracy in TC.

The PAL version is only 25p and the NTSC version is only 24p.

That’s the HD lenses, CCDs and better internal processing on the SDX900 too. One hopes you get those for the added $$$.

Have you tried exporting as a Photoshop file from Motion? Key is making sure there is truly no BG color on your Motion project.

The issue of what is proprietary specifically about the P2 port and whether another company would have to pay royalties or could reverse engineer without legal issues would be a good question for Jan.
