The in-camera 16:9 squeeze of the DVX100A and B is 30% lower quality approx than the optical adaptor. That’s about it. Anything else is software scaling from 4:3 to 16:9 and also a massive scaling up to 1080i for the HDCAM frame size. I’d recommend a nice hardware upconvert or the Algolith plugin:

You will have the original camera 5:1 compression but none added from the digital dub.

Sure you can shoot SD on the HVX as DV or DVCPRO50 which looks great and you get all of the slow motion and high speed variable frame rate effects.

Unfortunately that’s normal in C4D- it only updates in the renders. Hopefully it will be addressed in a future update. If you search the boards you’ll find some workarounds.

It’s in the camera- your tapes will be clones without any added compression. (Just like The Island).

I do it anytime I’m in another city or big temperature change or the like. For me on average it works out to once every 10-15 tapes.

That’s what I thought but I’ve gotten client burned DVDs in the past from standalones that I couldn’t do anything with- drag and drop, rip or dub. Weird.
