While I believe the DVX100b is an awesome camera and will be viable for sometime to come, I am considering a HVX200 camera. I currently shoot with a DVX100a at work and am upgrading my own equipment. I am wiling to wait a while and get the HVX, but wanted to know if I shoot a SD piece can I crop the footage in my NLE or would it be better to shoot with SD camera (DVX). I currently use a Final Cut System. Thanks.

Sure you can shoot SD on the HVX as DV or DVCPRO50 which looks great and you get all of the slow motion and high speed variable frame rate effects.

An HVX is a DVX in basically every way, but more. It has pretty much all the same options, same tape drive, same DV system, same 24P and same menu settings; but it’s better in that it has a wider lens, a longer lens, a sharper lens, and native 16:9 chips, plus you have the P2 options for tapeless recording, DVCPRO50 (which is very, very nice), and of course HD when you’re ready.

If all you need is a DVX, a DVX is a lot less expensive (about $2,000 less). But an HVX is a better DVX than the DVX is, plus it has all the extras going for it.

One area where the DVX is better is in sensitivity; the DVX is about a stop faster than the HVX.
