    Hey folks –

I’m dubbing from Panasonic miniDV tape AY-DVM63PQ (played in DVX100A) to Sony DVCAM tape PDV-184N (recorded in Sony DSR 45 deck) via firewire. Play and Play/Record.

Will I receive a 5:1 compression hit as the footage is dubbed? Is DV’s 5:1 compression in the camera capture or in the recording on tape? Obviously I don’t want this. I am just making backup tapes and want to maintain full res.

    Thank you –

    MIke.

It’s in the camera- your tapes will be clones without any added compression. (Just like The Island).

But also do realize that your tape is already encoded at 5:1 compression.

You will have the original camera 5:1 compression but none added from the digital dub.

    Correct.
