Well it’s kinda subjective. AF will make some noise always. If it started making a new noise or is incredibly loud then there could be something wrong.

It might be an issue if it’s so loud you pick it up on recordings. As an aside, most pros do not use autofocus because it can often search during a shot- ruining the take. It’s best to keep it on manual, using push focus and a good monitor to keep things sharp.

Yep- I tried them but they were just not able to get it together for me yet. I think I’m on a waiting list with them for the next class they do.

Hard to say until you get there. Not sure if you’ll see strobing with 24p on 50 cycle lighting but it is possible. You may by able to cancel it out with by adjusting your synchro shutter speed.
I had a bunch of 60i shoots in Austria a few years back with this exact issue. My eventual solution was to shoot PAL 50i instead which worked like a charm. We then converted the final project back to NTSC for local delivery which again looked great. You could do the same with a PAL DVX100 rental if you have the budget for this.

Why not just shoot something? It will look a lot less cheesy. Well at least from a technical standpoint…

More a design suggestion. Make it a motion menu. At the point you go to the still menu know simply hold on a still in your animation. Hold for however long you’d like it to remain on screen before looping. Say 1 minute should give you enough time. If you watch a lot of Hollywood DVDs you’ll realize this is the trick.
