No prob- PS I should say grey markets have no U.S. warranty. Typically they can be shipped for a fee to Japan for service.

One year from date of purchase from authorized Panasonic dealers. Grey market imports have no warranty.

It indicates a fault in the tape transport system. This can happen if the camera suffers an impact i.e. is dropped. Sometimes it develops on its own too. It needs to be serviced. If it’s under warranty and the camera was not dropped it will be fixed for free.

Not much else to learn specifically related to the camera than what you’ve got already. Here’s one more spot of info:

I’d go 720p- that way you have a nice master should two years from now they require it in HD. Much cheaper to simply shoot and edit in 720p now and then master the final in SD rather than reshoot or uprez later. That’s what this camera is designed for.

All playback is 24p pulled down to 60i so focusing would be identical to any other DV camera you’ve ever used.

Couldn’t agree more that HD Log is quite overpriced. It’s not Panny’s problem though- they are not in the software biz. At this point HD Log will sell only to those people who truly require what it does for now and everyone else will do fine with the import capabilities of FCP or migrate to Canopus.
Imagine Products has two choices- drop their price drastically- say to $99 and they’ll sell a lot of it. Or wait and either be purchased by Apple or be supplanted by similar import features likely to appear in the next major revision of FCP.
However- I couldn’t disagree more on the “abyssmal” comment regarding workflow going P2 to FCP. It’s incredibly simple and easy. The main drawback is you lose a good chunk of your metadata. But compared to tape capture, you’re getting everything you’re used to getting and your getting it without logging and capturing. Pretty much point and click importing faster than tape capture ever was. And this is just the start of FCP’s P2 import support so give Apple a little time to catch up with feature requests, etc.
Bottom line: if you need what HD Log does right now but feel it is way overpriced for what it does, let the folks at Imagine Products know. It’s not Panasonic’s job to fix prices of 3rd party software:

Not a PAL guy but logically there is no such thing as 25PN- as it would be the same amount of frames as 25p. Only in NTSC land do we have a pulldown.
