The only thing I don’t see happening is XLR inputs- that simply not a feature on any camera called DSLR in 2012. Most folks are going double system sound- say into a Zoom Handy for that. I think you’d be interested in the Canon T3i/60D/5D Mark III or possibly the Nikon D800. Really comes down to your budget, which optics you want to work with and your specific shooting needs.

Or charge a minimal extra fee to transcode to a format they can view- such as DVD dailies or H.264 or ProRes files. Or even post to a private Vimeo account. Remember you can make or break your rep on those extra services- why not have them already setup and rate carded? 🙂

If by transfer you mean copy the entire directory folder from each card to your hard drive- yes.

You should have no issues transferring all cards to your hard drive in different folders (one for each card). Then from there just drag into your NLE- spans are generally automatically resolved.

You can purchase FCS 3 or easily find it on eBay. That’s pretty much the only way. The version 2 you have is not designed for the computer you have. Also FCPX comes with built-in DVD authoring capabilities (thought they are not as comprehensive as DVDSP’s were) and is $299 so you have plenty of options. The tech/post sector constantly evolves.

I’d guess you’d have more luck finding a new model with the right connector- have you asked VariZoom for guidance- they’re pretty good about that stuff.

It’s post friendly in the sense that once you shoot to the SDHC cards you have something already in a digital file format. So the next step is copy the clips to your hard drive and go right into editing. There’s nothing to ‘digitize’ as you would coming from a tape-based DV camera like a DVX100b.
1 hour of footage could be ingested in a couple of minutes depending on your hard drive and reader speed. Plus the SDHC cards are dirt cheap. I’m a huge fan of the Panasonic GH2 and think it’s one of the best deals to be had in terms of image quality- here’s my workflow video on that one btw- https://www.callboxlive.com/products/panasonic-gh2-guidebook
In that course I go over the entire soup to nuts workflow- and it’s geared at folks starting out from scratch on the GH2.

You mean to clients? You could always build a DVD to a hard drive as VIDEO_TS folder and then send that to someone. Of course they’d need to be savvy enough to know how to open it with DVD player software on their computer. Might be less of a headache to just send discs but it’s worth trying. IF you can’t figure out how to do this directly- a simple copy of the contents of a DVD into a folder on your hard drive would do the same thing (though you’d be wasting a disc for no reason).

Where are you checking this and no it doesn’t happen with all cameras but that said- DSLRs are not always perfect sync audio cameras in video and a single frame offset is not unheard of. My suggestion to improve audio is to record double system sound with a nice mixer and outboard audio recorder and sync in post. Some NLEs like FCPX have automatic syncing and you can get third party apps to do this as well such as https://www.singularsoftware.com/pluraleyes.html
