Have you considered an ultrawide instead? I’m using FCPX and the rest of my Mac on an LG 21:9 and it totally rocks:

Hmm- as FCP7 hasn’t been developed in several years now you’ll never get native editing in there. My suggestion would be to at least purchase the current version of Compressor which might be able to open the MP4 files and at least get them into ProRes QuickTimes you could open in 7. That or maybe it’s finally time to try FCPX which has full native 4K support for the GH4 files right out of the box. (and could be used also as a converter if you’re still wanting to stay on 7).

You don’t have send to Motion from FCPX but you can design any desired transition/filter/generator in Motion and use it in FCPX. So integrated yes, same as in 7, not exactly.

Generally speaking- yes. Although I seem to remember there might be some formats you have to set the camera to first before they’ll appear on the card if you’re using the camera itself to transfer. (This is remembering using that camera many years ago before the advent of the car you understand so my memory might be fuzzy).

Unfortunately projects cannot be opened in older versions, so the friend would need to either use your system or update his to 10.1.3 (assuming that’s what you’re on). The actual color correction would depend on what the colorist is using. Generally you’d create a XML that would reference your original media. So you’d need to copy all of the media along with the XML to an external drive. That said, not every grading app will work directly with an FCP X XML. The one that currently has the broadest level of support is DaVinci Resolve.

Contact the Mac App Store directly- they’ll help you sort it out. As long as you’re connecting with the original Apple ID you used to purchase FCPX with before, it will offer you the proper version:
