My suggestion would be pony up for the full version of Resolve and use it’s crazy good and fast noise reduction at the final stage of grading. Much faster workflow with max quality. Only drawback is cost.

Yup and word I hear is that it’s no easy task to refactor existing apps for Metal. So not saying it’s impossible or even unlikely to happen for FCPX just that it could potentially be a while.

Last FCPX update was 9/3/15; El Capitan was released on 09/30/15.
So no I wouldn’t expect to see these sorts of OS specific improvements until at least one or more newer FCPX releases comes down the pipe.

I’d also look into the external drive. A faster Thunderbolt RAID will really make a ton of difference in perceived speed vs. say a run of the mill external USB3 drive. For example:

Also load up on the fastest GPU as that’s where FCPX pushes the hardware the most.

Or copy paste and select a different audio angle. Generally speaking I recommend against detaching audio if you can at all help it as there is no reattach audio nor sync offset indicators as FCP 7 had.

It typically opens the last edited timeline. You can’t choose beyond that. I suppose you could reject unwanted projects but that seems a little drastic.

jump into the multicam clip and copy the tracks you want- then paste them back into the project timeline.

Yep that is fine. I would suggest getting it into ProRes HQ for starters. And of course do some math calculations to determine how much storage you need for ingest/backups/etc.
