Thanks for the prompt reply Ray. Trust me, this issue has been discussed extensively with this client. This BTW is a big client. I wish I could purchase the 900 but if I did I would still have to rent the Varicam for this specific series of shows. We described in details all the 900 pluses to the client but they never needed any of those features and most likely will not need any of those in the foreseeable future. The client itself has invested in four Varicams and their concern, among others is full compatibility.
My question above was personal. In addition to serve the client would I be able to capture footage on FCP by using the camera HD SDI out to playback instead of renting or buying a deck? This would make me feel a little better in making the Varicam investment.

November 12, 2007 at 12:02 pm in reply to: KINOFLO Diva 400 Kits vs LP-1×1 from LitepanelsI really like the Litepanels, I’ve seen it at work and I played with it at NAB and as we are seeing more LED fixtures coming on the market at reasonable prices or prices compatible to other lights we’ll see the Lipanels prices coming down. At this time I would go with the Kino mainly for versatility, unless of course you have a lot of money to spend. The Litepanel is available in either 32k or 56K version and you have to use gel to make the conversion, with Kinos or Lowel Caselight you replace the bulbs so there’s no output loss due to gel factors. Also the Litepanel is only a 12×12″ light and will not give you the very important wraparound effect that you get with larger lights, the Kino is double that size. Unless of course you can buy two litepanels and used them side by side, they make frames that can accommodate up to 16 (4×4) multi-litepanels light.
Unquestionably there are Litepanels in my future, the battery operated feature is excellent for short location shoot, you see them more and more in use at indoor sport events during halftime where is not practical to run power cords.

Bob, I recommend the Denny backgrounds https://www.dennymfg.com/ they have the most extensive line and I also believe that they have the largest ones available, 6×9
The background stretches on its own flex frame making wrinkles disappears. It folds to and apx. 30″ round. I never travel with the backgrounds so I don’t have any idea on protecting it. I imagine a large portfolio case would do it.

I found the company on Ebay, it’s the “HD Mannequin Supply” search under full size mannequins. Shirley is a full size mannequin but I propped only the top half on a chair. It was the cheapest one that I found and the one that looked more realistic, I believe the model number is the AU-10

I used a mannequin to demonstrate lighting throughout my web site at EFPlighting.com I would have preferred to use a real person but because of time restrictions some of those demos took me several days to complete and using a human was not an option. It worked well and “Shirley” has become part of the site.
Go to https://www.mannequinstore.com/index.htm also do a web search for mannequins and you’ll be surprised of how many suppliers are out there.
