  • Hi Richard! Thanks for your reply. I watched some of your ALE video on YouTube yesterday when I was searching for a troubleshooting method. I didn’t know what you used to edit the ALE so can try that.

However, I have done all those steps using Text Edit and then Input > Media and it’s always worked for me before and even on this project with footage from different cameras that didn’t have the Data track on them. That’s why I thought maybe the Data track was causing the problem.

As I mentioned, all the pertinent information was correct when I made new ‘master’ clips using the ALE I exported and re-imported, Source File, Source Path, Start, Duration, etc…

I even made a new project and used the generic settings in case something had gone corrupt but it still wont work with these clips but it just won’t work when I try merge and create new subclips.

What I ended up doing since I’m making groups from a long sequence is doing it with all the audio tracks that I don’t need then subclipping the group without those unnecessary tracks. It’s not ideal but I’m not going to manually subclip 200 clips and it suffices for what I need. I just really would love to get to the bottom of why it’s not working and be able to troubleshoot it.

In case this happens again in the future, I would love to know if making the new ‘master’ clips with only the audio tracks I need and no Data track is okay to do or if it will cause problems for the online. All the pertinent info is there, the timecode is correct for the Start and End and Source File and Source Path are correct as well, and the little EDL I made shows the correct info, so it seems it would be alright. Any drawbacks to using these?

  • There is a little icon for linking picture and sound on the left of the timeline, above the Red Arrow selection. If you turn that on when you Red Arrow select the video it will also select the corresponding sound from the same clip.

I tried lassoing the entire video track and that did not select the sound along with it, but if I Shift+select it will continuously select the sound along with the picture.

You can use the lasso option if you have all the picture and sound you want on their own tracks and then lasso everything and turn off the tracks you don’t need clips from. But I suspect you are trying to avoid the work of sorting these out.

Hm… re-reading your post it seems that I’m suggesting something you already know! Oh well… I tried. 😉

I don’t remember how to do it but there is a way to open a Premiere Pro 2019 project in 2018. I had to do it on my current project and it worked fine. If you google you should be able to find out how to do it, that’s how I found out. Make sure you have a back up in case anything goes wrong, but nothing went wrong for me.

    Oh, btw… I’m using PP 2018 12.1.2

  • That’s what I’m suggesting. That or get an online editor on now and let them do it. They can take it to Resolve if need be.

    Thanks!

Stay tuned for my post about why my EDLs are messed up! 😉

    AAAARGH!!!!!!!

  • Hey maybe this “pancake editing” mode will help you!

  • How are you making it show you the audio only?

Just under the picture in the source monitor there’s a little video icon and a little audio icon. (above the scroll bar)
If you click on the audio one you’ll see the audio tracks and waveforms in the source window. Now for some reason I can’t really see waveforms and I’ve googled that and it seems to be an issue with Premiere that it doesn’t show waveforms well. (I’m on cc 2018).

  • Hi Oliver,

Resurrecting this as the time has come where I have to reconnect to get some vfx pulls done. And I have a better understanding of Premiere and my situation now.

Thank you so much for your valuable input and help. I am able to reconnect to the camera originals, unfortunately, for those two days where they reimported the proxies I do have to manually connect each file due to the name, as you said.

After this I will then see about having everything connect to the proxies again as well as the camera originals, though I think we’re pretty much locked, so not too worried about that.

But watch out for my most likely soon to be posted question about how to export same as source for vfx work! ????

    Thanks again! Really appreciate it!

Hm… I’ve already made my proxies, but how do you put a watermark on them?

And when you say make them in media encoder, is it okay to send them to encoder from Premiere? I did the command in Premiere but the encoding was done in media encoder. Sorry if this is a dumb question, I come from the land of Avid.

  • Oof. Right across his face. What a shame.

I learned about this software on this forum called Refill. Might do the trick. I’ve never used it so can’t vouch for it but it came to mind when I saw your footage.

But it being right across his face is a tough one, might take some painstaking vfx work to make it look decent.

    Good luck!
