Hey Peter:
Thanks for the reply. Yup found out all of the above upon doing further research about the GH1.I have since found out about the new nikon D3100 which i have settled on since im a nikon addict and already have a fleet of nikkor lenses that would make anyone jealous.
I really dont see these DSLR’s as pro video cameras because of ther lack of real audio options, high compression scemes and a bunch or other things. BUT the quality of video that comes out of theses things cannot be denied.
The minute Canon, nikon or whoever figure out or decide to make these things modular for extra functionality and put better sensors in that can do the 4k still res in video …. we are going to have some fireworrks on our hands and panavision and the like are going to have to rethink their biz, as they are already.
Im buying mine because its easier to travel with. the RED One or HVX200 w/letus tend to get bothersome when hoping off a plane everyweek. and more often my videos use narration anyway so……
Im sure nikon are going to knock some socks off after this so the d3100 will be a start for me and i can add the big boy when it comes along.

Hey Pat !
We are in the Caribbean so we seem to have a VERY similar situation. We do high end stuff and are seriously considering the Alexa. Primarily because of the PRO RES feature and the time saving it offers.
We use a RED now which we RENT very often, and own an HVX200 with Letus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rR6WxzS6Zmc check out our latest MVHardly even use the HVX these days because we do a lot of ads and broadcast stuff. We actually signed on to do a movie this summer.
The price of the Alexa is definitely a hindrance, but im thinking no pain no gain.
Having one of these units would keep some money in house (rather than renting) and would also give us the flexibility we need. And from what i understand there will be an upgrade path for future sensor enhancements. What say you ?

Well seeing that Apple have been smart enough to expand the Pro RES line. Lets see if they will drop a Pro RES RAW version sometime in the future which allows for all those RAW features we’ve grown to know and love.
Things are really getting exciting

Thanks Gary:
thanks for the heads up. Lots of possibilities was also looking at the Onboard from codex. Which kind reminds me of a KiPro without the Pro REs and the all the varying inputs

Pro RES Is the biggest deciding Factor on the Alexa no doubt about it. It actually makes the camera an option the we all wish we had a while now. And you can easily rent a codex portable if your clients ask for that level of acquisition …. but how often will they.

Hey Bob:
As i said previously, im actually getting the Xserve as a SAN controller/Render box for my AE, Combustion, nuke etc etc render queues. So i was wondering if i can Dual purpose the machine instead of buying yet another machine just for the Ultra Scope.
I do agree buying an xserve just for Ultra Scope is over kill, WAAAAY to much money just for that one purpose.
The San and Xserve will reside in an Xrackpro 2 box which will cut noise down drastically and yes we will be using strictly fibre.
But from the look of things seems i better get a cheap windows boxand slap that in there as well.
Using the server form factor helps with my space issue as well
