November 5, 2010 at 2:44 am in reply to: Matching a HDSLR with say a HVX200

I too have an HVX200 but i usually use it with a Letus Extreme for extra depth of field. And recently ordered a D7000 (waiting for delivery). Has anyone done DOF adapters and an HDSLR ? how does that match ? From the images ive seen from DSLR’s, i think their images will be a bit sharper than the HVX. What do you guys think ?

    LOLOLOLOL
Sigh indeed. Mack that effect can be created so easily in post.
in case the DP did not realize we are in 2010 so like Apple says … there’s an app for that.

    I’ve seen this done before.
Of course its not a wise thing to do, its always better to have a clean image THEN drop some light factory on it. Same effect … more control.
id say it would be tried on something like a music video but not an interview dude.
But i suppose they know their client so…….

    Totally agree with Michael.

Nothing wrong with that. Just wanted to give you a business idea that just might work in this age of constant info.

And yes the camera is a step in the right direction. My only grouse, because ive had experience with RED, is lack of higher quality images. which of course can be circumvented with a ki pro mini.

My next question is when is the RED scarlet going to be released and whats the real price point, God alone knows that. Im actually thinking of waiting till years end to make a final decision and get myself a nice Christmas present.

You are a wealth of information, you should actually start your own Website and make yourself some money reporting on industry matters seems you love it.

I expect this camera to be in the 6k USD range, just like Jan said at NAB. So my toss up would be an AF-100 + ki pro mini (8k) or a RED SCarlet (lord knows the price or release date) plus extra modules for it.

I do not consider the AF100 a replacement for my HVX200 as the AF would never be used for ENG or simple shoots like that.
i dismantle my HVX from the letus from time to time to do simple stuff or even green screen to get sharper images. This is as strange a dynamic for me as the DSLR’s , i like em but i will never buy it because a bigger better version will come along soon.

Case in point Af100. RED is a more robust platform right now, RAW images less compression cinematic feel its all there.
but i want prores, dont wanna render down anything so it will work in FCP, or do i switch to PPro, ki pro mini will do.

Arguments for and against are welcome

One Question about the Ki Pro Mini.

Im sure you will get the KI Mini to timecode sync with the camera you are using in addition to video and embedded audio, but what about recording trigger. Will that be done via SDI/HDMI as well or will there be a different way to do it or will i have to press record on the Ki Pro box ?

    Hmm:

I already have Batteries for my HVX200 , was hoping they would work. sucks. but it seems the batteries used by the HMC150 are just shorter.

Gives the same 7.2V but at 2500mAh as opposed to 5400mAh for the HVX battery but i seems the battery connections are the same. which means i can use the same charger to charge the battery. there fore i wont have to buy alot of these batteries as i can use my other batteries to power my Ikan vx9 which has a Panasonic mount and even if they die i can use one of the new batteries.
    Correct me if im wrong.

Cool so im forgetting about that DSLR thing and getting one of these

By the way, what are the battery requirements for the camera? Does it use the same batteries as the HVX 200?

    SOLD !!!

My only problem with this camera since i’ve seen it at NAB is the codec. BUT, Panasonic could not put AVC intra in ti because it would totally cannibalize their higher model cameras, so that is understandable.
AF100 + Ikan VX9 (which i just ordered) + KiPro Mini or Atomos Ninja (https://atomos.com/) + my Nikkor lenses (which i love) + i have PL Lenses at my disposal + My Micro Matte box and i think i’m cookin’.

But that atomos ninja is a nice addition tho. My only grouse is that i want VFR in the Ki Pro/Ninja /whatever i’m using which it seems is not available yet.

If you do TV Alot like me this is a full RED kit

August 31, 2010 at 10:08 pm in reply to: Gh1 HDMI Output

The other good thing about this camera is its HDMI out. Which will afford me the ability to tether an AJA Kipro to it and bypass the H264 codec all together, but of course that will depend on if there are no menu crap coming up on the screen. when i get it ill let you know how things go.
